Re: nail polish

  • I always like the OPI stuff.  Plus, if you put top coat on every other day or so, it helps it last longer.

They have this new 'shellac' stuff too - only in pro places, has to dry under a UV light, then they rub your nails w/ alcohol to 'set' it, but it lasts a good two weeks without chipping AT ALL, and the couple times I've had it done it's not much more expensive than a mani.

  • The cheapo stuff works for me! OPI is really good and yes the darker colors make my fingers look shorter and fatter...which I sometimes like.
  • my nails chip in minutes it seems!  i just always have chips!  so annoying.  i did see the shellack manicure on pdubs site--check it out!  i think if i were splurging on a mani, i would get that!
  • I am a nail polish ho.

    My preferred brand is Essie.

Brands I have the most luck with not chipping: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear and Rimmel 60 seconds.

I used to like OPI but do not care for their fat brushes now.

  • The Maybelline 60 second one works best for me.

Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails is one I get a lot, but it chips quite often for me and I get butt-hurt if I give myself purple tips to only have them chip the next day.

OPI doesn't work for me at all.

Did the Shellac mani in December.  Was super purdy, but my whole thumbnail came off in one big sheet about 3 days later.  The lady had a hell of a time getting it to "set" so it was a problem b4 I left the salon.  But I did get many compliments on my nails in general when I had it done.  Kinda pricey, but nice to splurge on once in a while.
