To add insult to injury...

I am totally breaking out due to stress and taking crappy care of myself for the past week or two.

All these people to see in the next few days and I look a complete mess. We're talking my worst breakout in 10+ years. I don't think I looked this bad when C was born and I got sepsis and a c-section (although maybe I just didn't look in the mirror for those couple weeks! plus all those IV fluids probably smoothed out any developing wrinkles!).

Can anyone suggest some waterproof drugstore mascara to help make me look slightly better and not like something the cat dragged in? ;)

Hope everyone is having a better skin/cellulite/whatever body image issues you worry about day than me! Stick out tongue

  • I'm so sorry and I've been there. I don't have any suggs for mascara though. I can't wear eye make-up esp when I might cry. Even waterproof. GL!

I've never tried waterproof mascara, but I need something to make me look better! Or hopefully draw attention to my eyes and away from the pimples!

And I've been putting some prescription anti-biotic stuff my mom had on the breakouts, and I think it has helped a little but not a ton. I have to hit Target/Walmart type place tomorrow so maybe I'll grab some kind of spot treatment while I'm there but what can it really do by Saturday AM?

I had DH grab essentially all my makeup-toiletries to bring back with him Saturday AM, but he's getting here like an hour before we have to leave so I'm not sure what miracle I can work with it all in that time (I'd stopped bringing EVERYTHING back and forth with me from Sac to east bay every trip since it seemed like I never used any of it, of course then when I could use it I've left it all in Sac!).

  • If you can make it to a Nordstrom, I THOROUGHLY recommend Bobbi Brown's concealer. I'm breaking out like crazy (yay, hormones!) and it works so well. I also use her Waterproof mascara.

I hear good things about the Boots line at Target, too.

    Good luck!

  • Boo  :(  I would suggest using some spot treatment, drinking plenty of water, and NOT touching your face as much as possible over the next few days! That might help a little.

As for mascara - I like Neutrogena's stuff. I don't use their waterproof kind but I'm sure they have one available.

  • I wouldn't go crazy with the water. I've read a number of studies that pretty thoroughly disprove that drinking water is beneficial to the complexion. Additionally, they say the 8 glasses of water thing is bunk unless you are incredibly active, exercising a lot, etc. For most people 3-4 glasses a day is more than sufficient.

Fruits and veggies (well, all the good stuff in them, rather) do make a difference in your complexion. Getting plenty of sleep and less stress also make a difference. So that's my advice. Eat well, sleep, relax. And not touching your face is a very good idea.

    Also, get this: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/clean-%26-clear-persa-gel-10-acne-medication/ID=prod4384-product?V=G&ext=frgl_Google_Beauty

It's benzoyl peroxide. You can use another brand or whatever the store has, but applying it to your blemishes will help clear them up faster. 5% strength also works just as well with less drying but is hard to find. Since it is drying, don't apply it to your whole face and don't use it more than maybe once a day. Put it on at night. Tea tree oil also works the same way, and some people have luck with that if B.P. doesn't affect them, but it smells awful and your husband may never forgive you.

As for a drugstore brand of mascara, I like Cover Girl's Professional, though I've never used the waterproof kind.

My skin is a constant uphill battle so I feel your pain. :)

You're the second person to recommend BB's concealer as being amazing.

For drug store waterproof mascara I like Maybeline or Loreal.

  • Thanks for the recs, unfortunately less stress/more sleep type remedies aren't possible right now.

I did end up with CG Professional waterproof I think...it was the ONLY waterproof mascara in brown/black (vs true black) that the store had so I went with it.

  • About 3-4 yrs ago I broke out so bad I looked like a teenage again.  I started taking folic acid & vitamin E.  It helped clear up my face.  Not sure if it works for everyone, but it worked miracles for me. Dove soap also helped.
