2 weeks notice

What exactly should be said in your notice letter?  I've never really quit a professional job before so I want to make sure I go about it the right way.

Thank you!

Re: 2 weeks notice

  • I've only ever said that I'm resigning from X firm and position and my last day will be Y.

I suppose if you want, you can say something about how much you've learned or enjoyed the experience.

  • The only thing that they need to know is that you are resigning X position effective on X date.

  • Just a standard "this is to inform you that I resign my position as xxxxx effective xxxx" is really all that is necessary.  I've seen some serious kissass ones, but really not necessary.

  • I've always added some sort of positive experience as well as the date of your last day, because I want to leave a positive impression in case I ever want to work the company again in the future.

  • The key thing to remember is that your resignation letter is just a paper record for HR to have your employment dates. So the brief examples the pps gave you are all you need.

  • Just a quick sentence stating that you're resigning along with an effective date should do the trick, however, I would suggest adding some type of postive statement thanking them for the experience so that you can leave a good impression. It's defintely not necessary, but I have seen hiring managers reference old resignation letters when past employees have applied for jobs.

  • Mine was short and sweet. It said:

I, kimfoley88 am giving my two week's notice, my last day of work will be March 12th, 2010.

Then I signed and dated it and that's it!

  • I resigned from my job in January and here's what I put:

     To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to inform you of my resignation, given ________.  My last day will be _________.  I want to thank you for the experience and all that I have learned on the job.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make the transition easier.

     Sincerely,

    _____________
