I was thinking of you as I watched the news on the devastation in Japan this morning. I'm not sure where exactly in Japan you were living, but I hope the people you know there are all ok. The videos are just incredible to watch. It's so heartbreaking.

Re: *Eeva*
Some of the worst devastation is right where I lived (Sendai). I was in a town just outside of it. I'm trying desperately to locate my friends, teachers and students, but it's a madhouse. Phones are down, and we're relying on word-of-mouth to check in. My very good friend is missing, but she apparently was supposed to have arrived in Vietnam this morning, so we hope her plane took off just a few hours before the quake, and she's not stranded at the airport or injured.
Thanks for thinking of me. My heart is in my throat and I feel absolutely helpless. I don't know who to contact to find my friends. They're not answering our facebook messages and their cell phones are either off or the network is jammed.
My predecessor who lives in my old home checked in with me right away and said that as far as he can tell, all the teachers are alive, but he's not sure about the students. I can't stop shaking and I just keep thinking that I need to be there.
Oh, Eeva, I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine how helpless you feel. I hope you get some news soon.
*Hugs*
One of my friends did in fact make it to Vietnam, but so many others are still unaccounted for. The towns these friends of mine were in are completely washed away. They showed a few people on the roof of one of the junior high schools, and I'm praying my one friend is there.
I don't even recognize these places. They're saying the names, but there's nothing there. The fvcking news here said that a town of 17000 is washed away and 9500 people are missing, but WHY WON'T THEY SAY THE NAME OF THE TOWN???? My town is about 60 km from this nuclear power plant, and about 40km from the shore. It didn't suffer any tsunami damage since it was too far, but I don't know what state it's in. I know my kids had their graduation this week, but I don't know which day. I pray they weren't at school during the quake, because I know the school is severely damaged. All my emails are getting bounced back when I send them to Miyagi.

Oh, Eeva, I could not even imagine what you must be going through!
Praying for everyone in Japan, or effected in any way by the horrible disaster.
I hope that you hear from your friends soon!!!
Both of my friends were found: The first made it to Yamagata by car, and the other was located just this morning by some nbc news lady. I'm so greatful for all your prayers. Thanks everyone.
Here's an interview from him. It starts at about 7 minutes:

At this time, we still couldn't find our friend Canon, but she was located this morning:

I'm slowly getting word of some of my Japanese friends as power and internet are slowly returning to some of them. So far no one has been hurt or killed. Please continue your thoughts and prayers if you can. Pray the fukushima nuclear reactors dont release any serious levels of radiation. Pray the missing are found. Pray the grieving find solace.
I have to call my friend in montreal who lived in Natori while I was there, and lost everything. Natori was only a 20 minute drive from my (hopefully mostly unharmed) city. He is safe in Montreal and returned to Canada the same time I did, but he is living all my worst fears and probably needs a friend. He lost lots of Japanese friends, and his former home and schools.
