Applying for federal government jobs

Re: Applying for federal government jobs

  • They will let you know.  If you are not selected, you will get a letter explaining why.  There's really no way to follow up with most fed jobs, most are reviewed and vetted by committee.

  • Honestly, if you think 3 weeks is a long time for a decision and it's driving you nuts, you probably aren't cut out to work for the Federal Government.

Hahaha, this is so true. I just heard back about a job I applied for 8 months ago (I didn't get it). I had forgotten I'd even applied.

  • For government jobs, it's all about who you know.

Yes, this is true.  I got my job out of 300 applicants because a gal in the office was pulling for me.  Plus, I was a perfect fit for the job for the most part.

Ditto-I got a fed job because I know the boss and even though they wanted to hire me it still took 8 months.  Friends + patience = fed job.

  • Agreed.  Most of the time it is either who you know or if you've been in the system before. I got my govvy job b/c i'm  a vet and used to work there as active duty.  I agree it is unfortunate and seems often unfair but don't give up.
