Here's the basic situation: I have to work today, but not until 6pm. I am off tomorrow. DH is off both days. We have a lot of cleaning to do, and especially cleaning the office to get it ready for my friend that is coming to stay with us for 2 months (the office is also our guest bedroom).
I hardly use the office, but DH does. He also piles up stuff in there and lets it get really bad. Now we're in crunch time to get it cleaned and ready, and it's his job, since it's all his stuff.
I told him that since I'm off tomorrow that we should do all the cleaning today so that we can spend tomorrow doing whatever we want. He agreed. And he said he would get the office clean today. There are other things he needs to do, but the office is the most important.
He's been in there cleaning since 11am (it's 2pm now). He has made some progress, but not that much. In that time, I have cleaned both bathrooms (including scrubbing the floors), washed the sheets and a huge load of towel, and swept/mopped all tiled areas in our house. I have pretty much crossed off everything on the to do list, except for clean the office. So now I'm sitting here, with nothing to do, trying not to bug DH to clean faster.
I feel like I should be sitting on my hands.
Re: Trying to remain calm
DO NOT GO HELP HIM.
Pour yourself a glass of wine and relax.

I love my DH, but he moves so incredibly slow, so I understand your pain.
Unfortunately I probably would be in there snapping at him so I'm probably not much help with this situation.
I hope you didn't go help him.
When I do the cleaning, I can usually get it all done in a couple of hours. H, however, takes all day. I don't quite get how the crap it takes him so long to get it all done, but whatev. When we move, I can see cleaning days being a battle in our house since I knock it all out at once, and H takes forever. :P
Ha, E & I have opposite cleaning styles. He needs to rest and I can't, because once I'm sitting, I'm done. Same thing with getting errands and things done after work - I need to get moving immediately, while E likes to sit first. If I sit, I don't get up.
Meanwhile, once we're going, he blasts through stuff and I take longer, think about everything more. In fairness, he does stuff like getting dishes in the dishwasher, while I'm going through papers to see what needs to be thrown away or filed. So sometimes it's the sort of jobs we take on too. But yeah, I'm the tortoise, he's the hare.
