br: help me be okay with tummy sleeping

BP was kind of enough to watch my little man for a few hours the other morning (love you girl and thank you again!).  She texted me to say he was sleeping on his stomach during a nap.

Weird, but totally fine.  He'd never done that before.  Now in the last two nights he's been on his tummy when I go in to check!

It bothers me.  But he seems to just be completely conked out and enjoying the rest.

What say the DM nesties?

IMO, if he's mobile, he's fine to sleep on his tummy. Nicholas napped on his tummy from day 1 and was a nighttime tummy sleeper by 4 months.
  • He's not mobile.  Well, he doesn't 'crawl'.

  • We let Parker start sleeping on his belly around 6 months. As soon as they start rolling they are fine.

  • Kamikaze has been a tummy sleeper for a couple of months now.  It's the only way he sleeps for long stretches.

  • Oliver's been sleeping on his tummy since he was...well younger than LJ.
  • Perfectly ok if he can roll. Babies just feel more cuddled and comfy on their bellies. Jovie started sleeping on her belly when she was 3 months old and it helped her get more than 30 minutes of sleep :-). I am a worrier and checked on her often when it first started, but after a little while I realized she was fine and I needed sleep!
  • G has been a tummy sleeper since she could roll (so around 3 months she started tummy sleeping?). He is definitely mobile where he can turn his head if he's squashed against the side, etc.(Plus, I'd consider him mobile. He may not hands/knees crawl but he gets where he wants to go :-) ) Plus you have breathable bumpers. I wouldn't worry, he's safe :-)

I know it's scary at first, but they are comfy and cozy and completely safe.

  • Natalie started sleeping on her belly when she was younger than LJ.  It didn't matter if I turned her over, she would immediately go back to her belly.  He's fine, I promise!

  • my boys are tummy sleepers! always have been.

sounds like he's rolling, which makes it even more okay.

  • Ditto everyone else.  Zoey's been a tummy sleeper for quite some time.  We (and daycare) would turn her over once per nap/night, but then she'd flip back to her tummy again and we left her.  Now I just lay her down on her side & she often stays that way -- and then goes to her tummy.
  • I know it's scary..I would have freaked out with Brogan and refused to even think about someone putting him on his stomach to sleep, ie grandma.  This round? oy...Hudson has been a tummy sleeper most of his life.  He was just sooo much happier.  Our boys now are mobile, regardless of LJ not actually crawling.  I wouldn't worry if he can put himself in that position, he can get himself out of it.  <3

  • My little stinker started sleeping on her tummy at 2 months! She would roll there no matter what I tried. It freaked me out so much but she slept a lot better. I am neurotic so I ended up getting the Angelcare monitor and that put my mind at peace a lot. I say hes old enough now and I am sure has great head control so if he is sleeping well let him be and enjoy the rest :)

  • I agree with everyone else. As soon as Harper could roll, we let her stay on her stomach.  He should be fine!
