Canvas vs. Frames

The newborn photographer we hired gives you the rights to your photos so we can reprint however we want.

I'm leaning at ordering 4 canvas prints to put on our living room wall (we have nothing on them right now).

WDYT?  Canvas or get frames?

Re: Canvas vs. Frames

  • Well I personally think that it depends on your style/decor. If you are more of a modern, clean lines kind of designer in your home then I say the canvases. If you are more traditional, old world, etc type you may want your pictures in a nice frame. Ultimately it is up to you! Can't wait to see the pictures!
  • How big are the prints ? I think it would funny to hve a 5x7 print in an 11x20 frame. what about doing 2 of each ?
  • I'm a fan of the frames, but them (1) I'm a little more old fashioned and (2) I'm not a huge fan of photos printed on canvas.  I like my canvases to have real paintings on them.  But then... I also paint, so that could be the source of my bias.

Lol, well why would you do that? Unless you get some crazy thick matting.

I agree that it depends on your style. Does the other artwork in your home have frames? We have a few unframed canvas paintings but for the most part we go with frames. I think prints and frames tend to be a little less expensive than canvas. Unless you go to a framer. This will be more expensive but I am always happy when I go that route.

  • Depends on your style. Canvas will be more modern, framed could be modern or traditional (depending on the type of frame and matting you select), but a bit more traditional. I like the looks of both for pictures, but we always do unframed canvas for paintings.

We haven't printed anything yet.  I was thinking of doing maybe 4, 8" x 10" of each-though different sizes would be cute too now that you mention it.

The style of our house is probably pretty traditional, though our living room currently just is medium brown hardwood floors with a brown leather sectional and an area rug.

I think I need to find some online pics to make the final decision.

  • We did canvas with our wedding pictures. The cheapest we found was at www.canvas4life.com and we were SUPER happy with them.
