Dog hair that doesn't vaccuum??

I own an Australian Cattle Dog and he sheds almost year 'round. This is not common with his breed (the males usually only shed once a year), but given the weather where we live he sheds all year. I have used a variety of vacuums on our carpets to pick up his hair-no luck. I have used a Hoover, a Dyson Animal, a Bissel, and an Eureka. nothing picks up his hair. Well, lint rollers pick it up. So I lint roll our whole house. Luckily it's less than a thousand sqft and 64sqft is tile and the kitchen and bathroom is lino, but I'm so done with lint rolling my house!! I can't shave him, it can damage his undercoat. I brush him out twice a week (outside) and it still doesn't help. Any ideas??

  • I have the same exact problem with both of my dogs.  I've found that nothing will completely remedy the problem but, taking them to the groomer to have them deshedded seems to cut down on the amount of hair.  It is a frustrating problem that's for sure and it would be great if there was a better way to clean it up.  GL!

  • If you can figure out the carpet situation, let me know! As far as hard surface floors, this works awesome!!! We used it at the vet I worked at a million times a day and I loved it so much I got one for home. I have found that using a FURminator on my dogs have worked wonders

  • Furminate him daily and check out how his food measures up on dogfoodanalysis.com

Grain-free, high quality pet food = less shedding.

  • I have a blue heeler/australian shep mix, he looks more like a heeler though, the only difference is his hair is a little longer. But my dyson picks up his hair and my border collies hair pretty easily. I just swept actually and as I'm looking around its 10 times less hairy then it was 20 mins ago haha

Could the type of carpet have something to do with it?

I would definitely take him to a good groomer and see what they have to say and do some anti shedding things.

I love my dogs but I really do hate their hair!!

  • Our dog should be bold from all the hair he sheds. There are no vacuums I have found that will deal with his fur. The only thing that works for me is to take a glove that is made with bristles that gets hair up. Its a glove that usually is used for small areas but it works well on carpet so the extra time spent before vacuuming doing it by hand is worth it.
