Update from Mom in Japan

I am not sure how many people here know that my mom lives in Japan.  Anyway I have been freaking lately because of the earthquake situation and me not being able to get ahold of her.  Anyway, via her FB status LOL, I found out that she is ok.  They are far enough away from the epicenter where they just got some rattling and glass shattered.  As for the tsunami warnings, she has Mt. Fuji between her and the ocean so it would have to be one damn big wave!

Also, my younger cousin lives in Hawaii and she is also freaking because she says the tsunami sirens won't stop.  She has only lived there since October so she is not used to it.  I am worried she may have a breakdown

  • Glad to hear she's ok!  For all it's eeeevil, FB does do some good. I hope your cousin gets through it all ok, as well.  I can't imagine how scary that must be.

Good to hear your moms okay. They did say the phone lines and cell phones aren't really working too well (for obvious reasons).

Hope your cousin gets through this today okay.

  • I was not aware your mom is in Japan, SO glad that she is ok!

My cousin's BFF is stationed in HI. He and his family are pretty worried as well, but they have lived there for about 4 years now. Hope your cousin gets through it ok!!!

  • Thank goodness she's okay! It's really devastating!

As for your cousin, I'd be scared $hitless also!

My cousin and her family live in HI on Maui.  Her DH is on FB and his last status update 8hrs ago was "Sirens are going as well as almost every dog in the neighborhood"  so I hope they're okay!  They have a 4 yr daughter, I'm sure she had to be scared!

  • So glad to hear your mom is ok!  I hope everything stays well for both of them.  Will keep them in my thoughts and prayers!

  • Wow.  Happy to hear your mom is okay, those videos are absolutely numbing.

Even though HI had significant warning, I'm pretty sure the sound of the continuous sirens must be awful.

    I just can't imagine.

  • Thank God your mom is okay!

We had a tsunami warning here...hopefully nothing comes from it!

  • It's a very scary situation indeed.  Praying for all those involved.

  • Chelley, so glad she's doing okay.  She'll be in my good thoughts, regardless of Mt. Fuji's presence between her and the ocean!

  • Thank God your mom's ok!

I can't imagine what it must be like to constantly hear disaster sirens...I know when the tornado sirens go off here in Missouri, it sends a chill down my spine, and I'm used to it!  To hear it constantly and not be used to it must be terrifying!
