I am a former teacher looking for potential part-time work. I already have two other part-time teaching jobs (one as a private tutor, and another as a Saturday school teacher), so this job would be an additional part-time job. Financially, it isn't absolutely critical that I get another job, but it would make saving for moving to a larger house happen faster.
Anyhow, I've never had a very formal interview, as I was hired on to my one and only school as a student teacher. I applied for this position about a month ago, and got a call requesting to set up a phone screening from the HR Department a week or so later. I returned the call the next day and left a message. I didn't hear back, so I assumed that they had filled the position quickly. About a week later I got a phone call from the HR Department again asking to do a phone screening at that time, which I agreed to and completed. I immediately forwarded paperwork via e-mail (as requested during the phone screen) and was asked to follow-up with the department one week later, which was this past Friday. On Friday I set up an in-person interview for this coming Monday (tomorrow) and was emailed more paperwork to complete and bring with me to the interview. Then I got another email last night requesting that I complete a formal lesson plan for a given teaching scenario, and bring it, along with all student and teacher materials to the interview, prepared to do a brief summary of my lesson.
I am fine with preparing the lesson and materials, and sharing a summary during the interview, but I am wondering what, if anything, this indicates about how the company is run? Why wasn't this mentioned in my phone/e-mail conversations regarding the interview this past Friday? What if I didn't check my e-mail over the weekend? Am I over-thinking this? I am coming from a very high-stress school, and am looking for a position that is meaningful, yet not as stressful. Just hoping to get other opinions!
Re: What do you think of this?
While this sounds unusual, my question is, have you been communicating with different people? I would just be glad that you did get the email ahead of time so that you are able to prepare for the interview. While at the interview, see what your impression is of the company. If you continue to get bad vibes, maybe this is not what you are looking for at this time.
Good luck!
I agree, see how you feel when you meet them in person. GL
