selling clothes? + other random stuff.

I have some cute stuff that it's time to part with...

(I have a lot of business casual clothing I never had an opportunity to really wear them because my work is SO casual).

I've got a great blazer (size 8), a pair of size 10 editor 'shorts' from Express (the kind that goes to your knee), 2 size six Gap skirts that are really flattering and structured, brand new (with tags) pair of "cassidy" black dress pants from Express, along with some other tanks, shorts, and random stuff.

All my stuff is in excellent condition.  I've thought about selling on Craigslist but wasn't sure if that was the most efficient place to sell clothes?  I would love the extra money right now, and these clothes are just sitting in my closet waiting for a new owner.   I'm also not sure I want to mess with the CL crazies.

Where have you had success selling clothes?  Any great websites?

Or... do you want to buy any of my stuff? (email shanwalk2 at yahoo dot com)

I've also am trying to get rid of:  king size white sheet set, a white queen top sheet, some pillow cases (decorate and 'regular'), a yamaha portable grand piano, a laptop bag, a computer monitor, and more!!!

Re: selling clothes? + other random stuff.

  • You might think about Ebay, especially for the stuff with tags.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I've never had luck selling clothes / shoes on CL, but you might try Buffalo Exchange or other secondhand stores that buy from sellers directly. Plato's Closet won't want business stuff - they are more into the teen market and want party clothes.

  • I've never had luck selling stuff either. So I'm having a clothing and accessories swap party this Saturday, any interest in coming? You won't make money, but you can get rid of stuff and get some new stuff instead.

If anyone else is interested, let me know and I'll send the invite!

Thank you for the invite... but I think I'm going to try to make some cash.  If all else fails... I'll donate it!

  • Someone suggested I try Plato's Closet which is off of Brodie. I haven't gone yet because I'm too afraid they are going to tell me my clothes aren't 'cool' enough but that's my own fear...I'm sure they are probably nice.

Dang it!  I wish I wasn't going out of town this weekend.  I'd love to come to something like this!

  • I had good luck selling designer denim on CL, but rest not at all. When I was cleaning my closet before moving, I had to seriously get rid of clothes, I had a private sale in my house, priced and tagged everything, invited friends and asked them to bring friends, too. IMO if you are selling your unwanted stuff the key to selling them is pricing them reasonably, don't expect to get what you paid for.

Sarah, will you email me the invite? I'm not sure if I can come (b/c of SXSW work schedule), but it would be great incentive for me to do a spring cleaning this week if I can make it!

    Thanks!

  • I'm going through the same thing right now. I was going to go to Plato's Closet and/or Buffalo Exchange to try to sell my clothes and most likely try Craigs List or eBay for bedding. Let me know if you have any luck! I need the cash and extra room in my closet too!
