Swiffer

Has anyone tried the Swiffer? I wanted to see what other people thought about them before I went out and bought one. I'm assuming that it has to be better than the old school broom and dustpan!

Re: Swiffer

  • The swiffer is great.  We have hardwood floors and use the swiffer vac.

  • We have the regular Swiffer and use the dry clothes for our hardwood floors and the wet cloth for our tiled bathrooms. My only complaint with the dry swiffer is it really doesn't pick up large crumbs and we still find ourselves using a broom and dustpan for the kitchen but it's great just to get the dust up.
  • I like my Swiffer. The old school dust cloth version.

It doesn't do large crumbs but it's great for a daily quick swipe.

I can't stand the smell of the wet pads nor do I like how much they cost. I've just started slapping a soapy rag on the end of mine and it works great!

  • Welllll.....I like my swiffer, but it doesn't "do it all". The dry doesn't pick up dirt terribly well on my hardwood floors. It picks up a lot of dust and fine-grained dirt, but the really grainy/visible stuff it leaves behind a lot. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE it for picking up cat hair. There is always cat hair around the edges and in the corners and caught on the legs of the diningroom chairs, and the dry swiffer is excellent for that. I usually carry around a small trashcan to pick off the clumps of hair that it picks up as I go along. So I normally go about using it first to pick up the hair, then I sweep, then I mop.

Sometimes I use a normal mop, and other times I use the swiffer wet jet. The wet jet is great for cleaning the kitchen floor when I don't really feel like/need to mop the rest of the house along with it. But we have nothing but hardwood floors, so if I used the wet jet all the time then I'd run out of the juice and pads too fast and I don't want to have to constantly pay for it. But it works well.

I also have the wet pads for the original swiffer (not wet jet), and those I usually only use like in the bathrooms and anywhere else until it's dirty enough to not use anymore. Not entirely worth it since I could easily use the wet jet instead, but I use coupons for the wet pads.

One more thing about the dry swiffer--it's a life saver for using to get the army of dust bunnies under our bead. I never have to move the bed at all to clean under there, and then I usually use the wet pad under there too (after using it for the bathrooms) (wet jet can't get under there). Works great. Also: the dry pads for the original swiffer can be used twice--just flip inside-out when one side gets too dirty!

Bottom line: I couldn't survive the hair and dust bunnies with my hardwood floors without my dry swiffer.
