Anyone Experience Bleeding During Sex?

I have been having sex about once a week (my boyfriend has been working out of town and only home on weekends). Every time we are intimate, I bleed...a lot! I went to the doctor to make sure the excessive bleeding wasn't due to an STD. All of the tests came back clear. The doctor said I had a lot of residual blood in my vagina due to my Mirena. Do any of you Mirena users have this problem? How do you deal? Any other ideas of why I might be bleeding so much? TIA for any and all advice/suggestions!

Re: Anyone Experience Bleeding During Sex?

  • I don't have Mirena, but I would like to thank you for posting this. My doc wants me to get it and I just keep hearing horrible things about it.

She talks about it like it is flawless. Your post shows some complications and I appreciate it.

  • Oh no! That's scary! That happened to me when I first started having sex with my DF ( he was my first) and I was freaked out!! I googled it and got all kinds of scary things about possible ovarian cancer, etc. (it turned out to be none of that, I was just bleeding because I was new to sex) When is the last time you went to your gyno? How long have you had the mirena? Maybe it slipped or something and the thrusting is causing tearing? I have no idea. I wanted to get mirena because now I am on BC pills and I was kind of tired of having to take another pill every day (i already take severaal) but she advised me not too because she said since I have not had a kid, my uterus is too small and she was concerned it might not stay in place! But I would call your gyno ASAP! That should not be happening! Best of luck to you!

  • When we go a while between sex I bleed... and whenever we are in a rush and use lube I bleed. But since it's never a lot and it's not every time my doctors aren't concerned. Just make sure you get yourself fully "ready" to avoid any tearing.
  • Thanks ladies. I had a normal pap back in November. I called the doctor and have an appointment Friday. I hope it has nothing to do with Mirena, since, overall I love it. The doctor's office said it could be anything from fibroids to just needing to go to the drugstore and buy lube.
  • It's not normal to bleed during sex or afterwards.

See another doc, get another opinion. GL.
