say what?! going to research...
One of my CW's just said since Rick (mother f-er) Scott is cutting 3.3 BILLION from the public education budget, they're going to eliminate ALL sports in Duval County schools (where they have to cut 97 mil).
Is he totally wrong?? Right?? Off to research...

Re: say what?! going to research...
Just one of the countless reasons why he sucks.
Every time something comes out about one of the things he proposed or wants to do, JJ and I look at eachother like, who the fluck voted for him?!
I'd love for someone to actually tell me how he's planning to create jobs when he's already planning to eliminate a shitton, will have to cover those, then add more.
BUTTTTTTTTTT he's a good boy, remember? His mommy told us so.
Selfishly, this flucks me because 1. If schools are cut this drastically, the county housing market will take a beating and 2. I really want to be a teacher, and if we can't sell our house and have to stay here, I'd try to get certified next summer but there would be no jobs to have, and the schools would go down the crapper anyway.
I just posted about this in my AMA mayoral platform answer.
How is it that my BABY is going to be 3?

Also noted on this page:
The Duval County School Board is talking about the possibility of going to a 4-day school week to help it get through its budget crunch.

I mean, he did say he wants to privatize EVERYTHING, so I'm not surprised. Take all the $$ from schools and hospitals, bankrupt them and then everyone turns to private schools. Sure, in the end it could be beneficial, but WTF, we're going to have a generation of idiots first?! There has to be a better way...
If we did happen to stay here, and Duval Co gets worse, I'd be sending my kid to Bolles in a heartbeat (even though JJ would die inside, he went to Nease).
Have fun affording Bolles. If this does happen, their tuition will only get higher.
Right now I'm glad I live in St. Johns.
ETA: Just a quick Google search regarding Bolles Tuition tells me:
I'm seriously rolling my eyes at the fact that people are up in arms now that sports are having to get cut. How about education for education's sake? Is this what it's going to take for people to finally agree that funding for public schools need to be prioritized a little better?
Yes. I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but I really think this is a publicity stunt to get more funding. Either from some wealthy sports enthusiast donations or to raise awareness on legislation. Or both.
God, I hope so. Our schools suck. Period. I'm NEVER a fan of cutting education. I just don't understand how that is ever a good idea.
Seriously, who the hell voted for this guy?! Well, I know of one. I hope he's ready to spend a ton more money on jails, when our crime rates skyrocket because our kids are 1) less educated and 2) have way more free time with only going to school 4 days of week and not having after school sports.
ETA: We are moving to St Johns County before this kid is in kindergarten. I don't care how much we have to lose on our house.
Why does Rick Scott care? He'll be long gone to DC by then. That's all he's doing now is building his future political career so he'll have a record of being a "true fiscal conservative."
Nah. He's cutting Dept. of Corrections' budget. DH has pretty much kissed his pension goodbye.

I really, really hope it is a ploy too. And I wouldn't be surprised if it worked. It's similar in a way to the NFL thing. Shows where people's priorities are.
I 100% agree they should NOT be cutting education for education's sake. This is the future of our state, of our country... come on! This is the building block for everything... if you cut education crime will skyrocket, jobs will be lost, the housing market will tank, and who would ever want to move to Florida? I still remember growing up when we moved, every time we looked at houses it was all about which houses were in which school district.
Are there good school systems anywhere anymore? I went to elementary school in upstate NY and the schools were great. I was a grade or 2 ahead when we moved to Florida. Look at all the shittty things going on here. Look at the mess it Wisconsin. Look at Rhode Island pink slipping 100% of their teachers. I realize that budgets are a problem all over the country, I do. And I get that something has to be done about it. But, like Ashlee said, education is the building block to everything. Is this really the place to be cutting the budget? I will never support cutting education or cutting the people who are supposed to protect us from crime (cops, etc).
Yet this is the agenda a lot of republicans that stand for smaller government, more privatization, lower taxes, etc.
