Re: Japan

  • Confession.

I have not looked at any pictures, or read any articles regarding the events in Japan.

    I can't.

I clicked on the link you posted, and made it through a few pictures before my eyes started to tear up.

It's not going to do me, or the Japanese any good to sit here and cry.

    I'm sorry. I can't.

  • Well, no one wants you to cry.  It's just fascinating to me.

  • I'm a gigantic softie. I can't stand to see devastation like that. It's heart wrenching.

    However, it is fascinatingly horrifying.

This is me too, Jena.  DH showed me the pictures with the sliders last night and I cried.  I got teary-eyed again look at the pictures in the second link Nicole posted.  Of course crying does no good, but forcing myself to look and feel something for these people reminds me that I'm human and that is reassuring in its own way.  I tear up at the devastation, but I also tear up seeing the soldier carrying the old man piggyback.  These types of tragedies show the brutality of nature, but also the best aspects of humanity.  Of course, I know the most helpful thing I could do right now is make a donation since tears won't feed people.  I'll have to talk to DH about that tonight.

  • I have a heart of stone.  :P  It's incredibly sad, but I guess I have a morbid curiosity about these sorts of things.

  • It has its own consequences.  ;)

  • I have also been shielding myself from all this. It's just too too sad :( Plus, I really don't read the news much anymore. I'm not proud of that, but I don't have the time. And I don't miss how sad and depressed I used to get, back when I used to read all the news sites each day :(
