How to Put Off Acceptance of Position
Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping you all might be able to help me.
Two weeks ago I interviewed for a graduate summer internship position with a company in Florida (where I live). Last week another company contacted me for a phone interview. On Friday, a couple days after the phone interview, the second company emailed to let me know they'd like me to come to Atlanta later this month for another round of interviews. However, this morning, Company 1 emailed to offer me the position and asked me to forward my school internship paperwork to finalize everything. How can I politely put off Company 1 until after my interviews in Atlanta? Is there a polite way?

So, the way I see it you have a few choices:
a.) turn down the current offer
b.) accept it, and do not interview in Atlanta
c.) accept it, keep pursuing other opportunity, and potentially quit first job if offered the second
I would probably do C, and evaluate the 2nd offer *if* it ever came in at all. Only you can judge if the opportunity would be worth the disruption of leaving your new job so shortly after starting.

Thanks for the thoughts! If it helps any, the positions are for summer internships...so neither would start until late May or early June. The position I've been offered is much lower pay and the long term job prospects at graduation are a lot lower than potential position in Atlanta. However, it would still be a good position to make connections if that is the one I end up with.
Since they don't expect me to start for over 2 months, I didn't know if I could possibly say something like I'm tying up lose ends with schoolwork and internship paperwork and would have decision the first week of April? Or something like that?
