Worst feeling of my life

So let me start off by saying, my husband has been feeling under the weather all week. I assumed it was a cold/flu & he mainly stayed home & rested for the majority of the week. Yesterday he was feeling better so we went out & got our hair cut, did errands, etc. Since we are doing the C25k program we decided to get in our last workout of the week.

After dinner we tried to find a movie to watch, we couldn't really find anything good, so we decided to rent 127 hours off itunes. (The movie is true story based on a man who goes hiking & gets his arm caught under a boulder & has to cut it off we a dull knife in order to escape). Well the part came on the TV where the main character has to cut off his arm so I closed my eyes & asked DH to tell me when it was over. All of a sudden DH said "I'm really tired". I got up to look at him when I saw him get this blank stare and his head moved back & forth & he was groaning. I kept calling his name & he would not answer & his hold body went limp. I ran to the phone & called 911 -- at some point he woke up while I was on the phone.

When I got off the phone with the 911 operator DH kept telling me "I'm ok" His face was still pale so I still wanted to make sure he was okay. The police stopped by first, and DH was extremely embarrassed. Apparently when he was 13 the same thing happened, he was sick and went to see a gruesome movie & he passed out in the theater. He never told me this & I've never seen anyone pass out. The EMTs finally arrived & he checked out so we didn't send him to the ER.

This morning I took him to the walk-in clinic & he got antibiotics b/c they think he has a bacterial infection/sinusitis. I think I am going to stay home with him tomorrow & make sure he is ok. I hope this never happens again, it was the worst feeling in the entire world watching him go through that.

  • OMG thats horrible I'm so sorry that you both had to go through that. I can't even imagine how scary that would have been. I'm so glad that he is okay. Its probably a good idea that you stay home with him. Sending lots of T&P your way. Hope your DH feels better soon!

  • i'm glad that it was nothing serious but i'm sorry that you had to go through that! hopefully he can stay well
  • That must have been really scary. DH was only once really sick, and got so pale I was really scared that he just stopped breathing altogether.  Glad to hear this was nothing serious.
  • I'm glad to hear that it was nothing serious, but I probably would've been really worried too if that had happened.  I hope that he feels better soon!
  • That would be really scary. I'm glad to hear that he's doing ok and I hope that the cold/flu thing gets better soon.

  • Thanks girls, I am home with him now. I tried calling my primary dr to try & fit him in, but they can't see him until Thursday. I will keep you updated!

  • How scary! What an odd circumstance, did he not realize the movie might trigger this reaction or not since it'd only happened once before? Glad it turned out ok!
  • Yikes I'm glad it was a minor thing in the end...but do you think his feeling tired and flu-like prior to this episode had anything to do with the episode itself?  (reaction to the film?)

You mentioned something about how he'd been tired or something (right??).

    I'm glad he's ok! :-/

  • He's seen many gory films since the first incident when he was 13. He's not sure if it was a combo of being sick & watching the movie. His dad had the same thing happen to him when he was younger (they made them watch a movie with horrible car accidents in it -- so they would be careful drivers). He will be going to the dr's so they can make sure it's not a bigger problem. I don't want to just assume everything is okay. His uncle & cousin have seizures, so I also worry about that, but I don't think it was a seizure.

  • That's AWFUL!  And why I could so NEVER watch that movie.  I saw a 20/20 interview, actually a 2 hour special where the actual person told the whole story, along with video he shot while he was trapped.  it was SO awful, but I couldn't stop watching it.  When I heard they made a movie out of it, I was like, there's no way I could ever watch that.  hearing him describe cutting his own arm off was awful enough.  I get nauseous just thinking about it.

So yeah, tell your husband I'm with him!  I probably would have passed out too.  Poor guy, I hope he's okay!
