Recommend your washer/dryer

Our current top loading washer broke this weekend so i'm in the market for most likely a front loading washer. we'll probably go ahead and buy the dryer with it.

Any recs?

Re: Recommend your washer/dryer

  • We have the Whirlpool Cabrio top loading washer and front dryer. We love both of these. First the washer is agitorless and high capacity so I can put our king size comforters and they come out great. Also having a top loader, we haven't had to endure that sticky mildew smell everyone complains about with their front loaders.

This was posted on another board just recently about top loaders and the arm parts breaking. Somthing to think about as you do your research.

  • I love my whirlpool duet washer. There are so many advantages to going with a front load vs. traditional top load. Also, I warn against HE top loads because in my opinion the science just isnt there. No current design effectively gets a true tumble in the clothes. Without agitation or a true tumble....clothes won't get clean. Whatever model you choose, I advise going with one that has an internal water heater. This allows more control/ choices over the water temp. Most models are big enough to accommodate larger than large loads (especially in comparison to a traditional top load). I definitely recommend getting a matching dryer. Here is why: clothes coming out of a front load washer are already dryer than if they were washed in a traditional top load....this is because the final rinse/spin speed of a front load is so fast (at least 1000rpms) allowing for excess water to effectively be spun out. A matching dryer to a front load is designed to accomodate these already dryer loads (i.e. thermostat calibrated a certain way). I'm not sure what dryer you have now but most older dryers "expect" wetter clothes and with its pre-set cycles can be too hot and burn/damage your clothing (especially more delicate stuff). Also, the new dryers are huge and can fit the larger loads you'll be washing with a front load machine. Here's the link to the new Whirlpool Duet. Whirlpool also makes Maytag so it's front loading washers are almost exactly the same. Great value in both I think! http://www.whirlpool.com/catalog/product.jsp?src=WASHERS&cat=115&prod=2050
  • I have an LG Allergiene Steam washer, I love it!! I don't have a dryer yet, but I am going to go with the matching LG.
  • Another vote for the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer! Just make sure you run the washer wash cycle every month to get rid of any build up in the drum
  • I love our Bosh set. LOVE LOVE all the options
  • Our washer died last week so we decided to just get the set too.  We got the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer and love them so far.  Good Luck!
