For those that count calories/points a ?

How in the world do you do it and keep it up? As bad as it sounds, if I ate out everyday, it would be easy, just go to the restaurant website and plug in what you ate and there's your nutrition info.

When you cook, do you do more of an estimate? Or do you exactly measure out every single thing you eat? It doesn't seem quite so bad if you eat a meat and a vegetable because that's easy, but if you actually cook and start mixing stuff together, it just seems overwhelming. Any tips or suggestions??

Re: For those that count calories/points a ?

  • I tend to make it a point to cook from recipes that list the serving size and nutritional info, so I can just measure out a serving and plug in the calories or points.

When I first started weight watchers, I cooked from their recipes a lot, so I had all the info when I was meal planning. Now that I've been on it a while, I mix in one or two of my recipes a week, using their recipe builder to figure out the points. Just converting one or two recipes a week is a lot less overwhelming than converting everything all at once.

If you need a good recipe calculator, I'd recommend SparkPeople's. I preferred it when I counted calories.

  • I measure every single thing. I also stick to a meat (chicken, fish, pork chop, steak, etc.), veggie, and baked potato or rice.

If I eat something from a recipe, I make sure to find a recipe that has the nutritional information listed.

I can see how it could be overwhelming, but I'm very type A and it makes me feel like I'm in control. Wink I have a app on my phone and I enter everything before I eat it.

  • Thanks for the input ladies. =)

When it comes to eating, I'm very picky and don't like just meat and veggies by themselves. Embarrassed I wish I did, but I guess since I was raised more on casserole type meals, that's where I get it. And if I could just eat pasta (with cheesy or creamy sauce of course) 5 times a day I would be happy lol. I guess I'll be on the hunt for new recipes that have nutritional info on them and hopefully stick with reasonable portions!
