Happy Pi Day, Karen!

I had no idea this was such a celebrated holiday!  You were the first person I heard mention it, but sure enough between this weekend and already today I've heard people talking of their celebrations, etc.  A woman that used to be a Math Teacher in my department brought it a pie!

So, Happy Pi Day!

Any of you ladies celebrating the other holiday today?!  You know, steak and ...... Wink

Re: Happy Pi Day, Karen!

  • oh snap, I forgot that was today (not Pi Day, but the other). Crap, well what DH doesn't know in this case, won't hurt him right?

And yeah for being an engineer, someone in the office brought in donuts to celebrate Pi Day.

  • I am a bit suprised that my physics class didn't push to have a party for Pi day, we just finished a unit on rotation where Pi was the star!

As for the other holiday....I told DH about it and he's like..."I would just rather have sex"

We originally planned to celebrate but we had a loss in the family last night so we are all meeting at my parents tonight to figure out a game plan for the week.  We'll be travelling to West Virginia for the services at some point, bleh.  It's been a rough 6ish months.

Thank you.  It's my Great Grandmother so I realize I was more than blessed to have her so long but it still just sucks so bad.

It's the craziest thing though.  I don't know anyone's beliefs, but I have to share this.  It was my Great Grandmother's daughter (My Mom-mom, Jean) that passed in September, and we didn't tell my Great Gram that she passed because it would literally have killed her.  Well.  Yesterday, all day, she kept telling my fam that she saw Jeanie.  She insisted that she spoke to Jeanie and that she was going to see her.  Last night around 10pm she passed peacefully.  Isn't that crazy?!!

  • Aw, that is really sad.  I pray on a regular basis that my grandparents will stay healthy enough to meet my childen.

And that is a really cool experience that your GGM had!

  • I know.  It was super hard that she missed my Wedding Day and I don't want to think about how bad I'll miss her when we have little ones.

Mike hasn't had any grandparents in his life since freshman year of college.  I have 2 grandfathers left but one is in a Veteran's assisted living and not doing too well and the other is just now getting back in our lives since my mom-mom is gone.  They divorced when I was a kid and he moved away but he's back around now.

You called your grandmother Mom-mom?  We called mine Mom-moms Smile

I am down in the grandparent department too.  Between Ken and I we just have his grandfather still living.  I missed having grandparents at my wedding terribly.  My dad's mom is still alive but she doesn't acknowledge our existence so I dont count her.

I am sorry for your loss, you are in my prayers.

Officially, we did call her Mom-mom.  But if you were around us, you'd refer to her as "Bean".  It stems from my Uncle teasing her saying Jean, Jean the Dancing Machine.. which somehow got to Jean the Bean.. which led to Beaner and eventually shortened to Bean.

I always love to hear what people call their grandparents because it can be so different.  Sometimes it ends up being a "down South" name, etc.  So interesting.

  • I have 3 of 4 (my dad's side gpa passed away in 2002).  DH hasn't had any living since 3rd great.

We called my ggm "Mor-Mor" which I was always told meant Mom-Mom in polish

  • Thanks for thinking of me for Pi Day.  We had an awesome party on Saturday.

Sorry about your loss.  I'll sent positive thoughts to you and your family.

  • Thanks Karen.  This post went from Pi to grandparents real quick lol

Glad to hear your party went well!  Did you make pies?!

  • I made a sweet potato pie (DH's fav), an oreo pie, and a chocolate mint ice cream pie.  My roommate made a strawberry rhubarb pie, and a couple of people brought apple pies.

That sounds like a LOT of pie lol  I would stick my face in the oreo pie Embarrassed

  • Sorry I'm a little late on this, but Kearstin - I'm very sorry to hear of your loss as well.  What an amazing story you shared above, though.  I do hope it helps you to get through this terrible time.

On another (lighter) note, the Oreo pie and chocolate mint ice cream pie make my tummy growl!

Thanks Megan! It definitely helps to know the two of them are back together. Easter is going to suck this year because we always have it at my Great Grams and this is also the first that my Mom-mom will be missing. But I have a ton of family so we'll get through it together. Thanks for the support everyone!
