Cleaning tile/slate floors + steam mop Q

Hi!  I have a unique question.

I don't know what my tile floors are... possibly slate?  Well, there are all these little grooves or holes in the tile and dirt has accumulated in them.  I didn't even realize that it was dirt until I cleaned a little square with the Magic Eraser and I was grossed out.  But, most of my downstairs is covered in this mystery tile and I am not going to sit on my hands and knees for 2 days cleaning every tile individually.

Would a steam mop help with something like this?

Re: Cleaning tile/slate floors + steam mop Q

  • I have smooth ceramic tile with grout lines in part of my home.  My steam mop does great on the smooth tile but does not clean the grout very well--I still clean that with a toothbrush once a month.  It takes two days worth of naps for my son to clean it all, so I feel your pain.

  • Ok that's great to know.  My tile is definetly not smooth and i was hoping that it would be able to really get in there, but i guess not.

ETA:  OK, didn't really word that very well.  Sounds kind of like I hand the toothbrush to my son and make him scrub for two days while I take a looooong nap.  LOL.

LOL that you noticed that yourself. That's the first thing I thought when I read it, but was giving you the benefit of the doubt!! Stick out tongue

  • I have textured tiles in my kitchen and bathrooms.  My steam mop works wonders on cleaning them.
