Cruise Advice Needed :)

Hi ladies,

I know quite a few of you went on a cruise for your honeymoon and I was just wondering if you have any advice on what to prepare before hand, how to pack, what to bring etc. I'm going on a cruise next month to Cozumel and I've never been on a cruise so I'm not sure what to expect.

Also, for those of you who did excursions, do you purchase those beforehand? or once you dock? Through the cruise ship company or somewhere else?

I know that's a lot of questions! Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Cruise Advice Needed :)

  • we've been on two cruises.. and I love them!  We went to Cozumel on the cruise where we got engaged.  Big Smile

I'm crazy, so I pack like, 3 outfits a day. lol... basically.  1- a bathing suite + cover up for lounging around at the pools. 2- If we change to walk around the casinos or shows... and 3- for dinner and after dinner shows.  I always dress up a bit more for dinner.. where as if we are walking around, I'll be dressed down a little bit.  lol Some days I'll only need 2 outfits.. but I like the extra incase my mood changed. lol

You can buy cruises ahead of time, but you can also buy them on the ship.  They will open up their desk at some point and you can go there.  The lines for that is usually LONG.  Carnival, you can order right in your room on the TV!  (you can track your bill there too!) The excursions can fill up quickly though, so if there is something you REALLY want to do, I'd book it in advance!

Bonus- you can bring your own wine and stuff!  I packed my small wine opener in my luggage, and I carried on 2 bottles of wine.  There is a limit.. But I know when Andy and I went- we could take 2 normal sized bottles of wine.  lol.. "normal"... not the tiny bottles, and not the huge bottles... does that make sense?  I can't remember the amount in the bottle.  It was very nice because we didn't need to buy one for when we wanted to eat in the room.  We could just open it up!  And the housekeeping will keep refilling an ice bucket for the wine if you want them too.  It was wonderful!

I LOVE cruises.. I can't wait to go on another!  What cruise line are you going with?

  • we took a carnival cruise for our honeymoon that stopped in Cozumel and we LOVED it!  I agree about the several clothing changes per day.   You want to have at least 2-3 dresses or nice outfits for dinner (for a 7 day cruise) and then I also took a ton of bathing suits, sundresses, and casual clothes.

I agree also about bringing two bottles of wine with you. Waaaaay cheaper than buying wine on the ship.

We booked 3 excursions at the main lobby on our ship on the first day because some of them can fill up quickly.

Our ABSOLUTE favorite excursion was in Cozumel, it was the snorkel and beach party excursion.  They picked us up in a Catamaran and took us snorkeling.  The water was so beautiful and it was a blast.  Then when you got back on the boat the beer and margharitas were included, so everyone pretty much laid in the sun and got wasted!  They took us to this private beach that had a trampoline and blow up slide and all kinds of fun stuff, and hammocks to relax in, and a bar where the beer and margharitas were again free-flowing.  It was so much fun and our favorite day of the cruise.  My girlfriend and her hubby did the same excursion on their honeymoon and recommended it to us, we all loved it!

I can't wait to cruise again, it is just so much fun and there is always a ton of stuff to do on and off the ship-hope you have a blast!

  • What cruise line are you going on?  Carnival has a formal night every cruise, NCL has a night where you can dress up, but they are more casual overall, doing freestyle dining.

  • Thanks girls this is all so helpful! I am going on Royal Caribbean.
