I'm kinda proud.

Got our personal taxes back today--we got a federal refund of ten bucks. Which means I'm da bomb at estimated taxes. (we are self employed/incorporated) :)

So...are your taxes done?

  • You rock!

Ours have been done for 6 weeks now, but I don't plan to pay them until the beginning of April. I want to hold on to my money as long as I can :)

  • WTG! Yes

We got our taxes done in February.  We got a nice little refund from federal (not a huge amount, just a nice amount to add to savings) and we owe state $100.  They'll be getting that in April Smile

Ditto this. We owe a significant amount of money, so we're waiting to file taxes in order to keep earning interest on our money in the meantime.

  • That's awesome!

I did our taxes last weekend after I finally got my last 1099.  This is the first year we are getting a substantial refund.  I am so relieved!  We do owe state like always though.

  • We are getting a ginormous Federal refund which was a huge surprise.

We owe state, of course, but we won't be paying that until April 20th - the last day you can pay if you are paying electronically.

  • WTG!  I have been trying to get ours close for the last 3 years and I failed each time.  We keep having huge things happen that change the taxes and I am not so good at adjusting for those apparently Smile

our taxes are done, but I haven't filed them yet.

  • We did our taxes last month. We got a pretty big return, mostly because of education credits. I love getting refunds though. DH and I are definitely NOT good at saving, so that extra money throughout the year most likely would've been blown on eating out, shopping, etc. For example, our a/c is very, very old and crappy. At the end of last summer, we agreed to save money over the fall/winter and get a new a/c this spring. Well, that sure didn't happen. But since we got our refund, now we can buy a new a/c! And laminate wood floors, new tires for my car, new mountain bikes, and we still have plenty in our savings account for emergencies. To us, it's like a savings account that we can't really access. Even though we didn't get interest on that money, we probably wouldn't have gotten interest on it anyways because it never would have stayed in savings haha.

You probably would have "made" a whole $10 on if it were in the bank - interest rates are so low and crappy right now.  Even long-term CDs have awful rates.

  • We got our's done last month. We did get a federal refund back but still had to pay state. Figured out my check was not withholding enough so we redid my W-4 so it won't happen next year.

  • I got everything to our Accountant last week. I don't really care to hear from him either because I have this feeling were going to owe which is going to suck big time!

I thought we were going to owe a LOT...you never know!  Hopefully your accountant will find you some great deductions!

  • Awesome! You need to teach me your ways! We are getting a massive federal refund. And, while that seems nice right now, I'd much rather have that money throughout the year.
  • We got a massive federal refund, too [which was nice to have since we had emergencies come up after the refund came back]. Once H's military stuff and our education things went through, we ended up getting money back from the state, too. I was surprised.

Of course, it's either gone or in savings [well, what's left after my emergency trip to CO], but ah well. :)

  • We also got a pretty sizeable federal refund, and a smaller one from state.  We're each going to make one fun "splurge" purchase (about $100 each) and the rest will be going toward the down payment/closing costs when we move to the new house in a few months.  I'm not too disappointed about not having the money throughout the year, since, like stripes said, we probably would have made all of $10 or $15 in interest if it had been in our savings account.
