Ok ladies, talk to me about Spanx

I need to know everything, I've only tried wearing them once.

We have a wedding to go to in May, and I've been new dress shopping.  I got I think 5 new dresses, and tried them all on for DH last night.  The two he really loved are the two that I will need Spanx for.  Just the way they fall I know I'll need something.

Where do I start?  Can I go with an off brand type, like the Target brand?  Will I be able to breath, or will they just make me look worse?

Help me ladies!

Re: Ok ladies, talk to me about Spanx

  • I had a pair pre-kids. Only wore it a few times (got pregnant... haven't worn since). They were Spanx brand, and I think I got them at Chico's. Mine were high-waisted (top ended right below my bra), and went down to mid-thigh, or perhaps my knee. It was tight, but not uncomfortable once on. Definitely could breathe! Helped make my slightly clingy dress flow nicely instead of getting snagged on my not so pretty bulges.

  • I used an off brand can't remember the name but I bought them at target.  Similar style to post above and thought they worked great and were comfortable.
  • I got mine at Walmart when Gianna was 6 months old and I still had a baby belly. They were so uncomfortable. Not at first but as the night went on. I didn't even eat my dinner at the wedding b/c I was so squished. I vowed to never wear them again and thank god with my running I don't have to. No thank you....maybe it was my cheaper Walmart pair but I don't see how women wear them daily.

  • I have a few pairs of the spanx brand and think they are worth every penny. I wore the high-waisted thigh length ones under my wedding gown and thought they were super comfortable. The biggest thing is to make sure that they are the right size. If they arent they fall down and thats what makes them the most uncomfortable...

If you go to Botticellis in N.Prov they have some that you can try on.

  • i happen to really like them. i think they help... i wear them under most of my dresses. i have tried the high wasted thong and brief and also many of the tights/stockings they offer. if its a tight fitting dress and you ar worried about lumps and bumps i would def give them a try! :)  i dont find them to be any more uncomfortable than my regular thongs, underware and tights! i sell all different kinds at the shoppe, but i am pretty sure you can find them in any womans clothing store these days.
