New to Austin

Hi everyone! My husband and I are moving to Austin the end of this month. We're currently about 4 hours away, in San Angelo. We don't know anyone out there (aside from our apartment locator and a car dealer, now, haha), so we're looking to meet some new people, hopefully!

Any tips on Ausin living, or info on the "need to know" aspects would be greatly appreciated!!

Looking forward to being more active on the boards :]

Re: New to Austin

  • Welcome! What part of town are you going to be living in?
  • Welcome!! The only thing I can think of is try and live as close to work as you can. Traffic can really be horrible. But seeing that you are working with an apartment locator I'm sure you have that covered. =) There is a ton of stuff to do here, my suggestion is pick up a chronicle (they come out every Thursday and its free) and start trying out some stuff. It usually has a schedule of things going on in town - some free, some not.

Also, we usually have get togethers about once a month, we have a north and a south group so we get just about everyone covered.

I'll be in NW Austin, the very edge of Austin!

Thanks for the tips! As far as work goes, I'll be subbing for the school district, so jobs can be all over, but at least I can choose which I want (when available). I'm looking for something else just in case the availability of jobs just isn't happening (which seems to be the case over the last couple weeks). For that I've been focusing close to our place. I will definitely check out the chronicle, and see what I find!

Get togethers, nice! Once I'm out there and we're settled, I'm sure I'd enjoy that.
