Baptism gift?

Hi girls,I used to post a bit before the wedding but mostly I just lurk now. Anyhow, I had a question and thought maybe you all could help me out with it. My husband's friends are having their son baptized in a couple weeks and I have no idea 1. If we need to bring a gift (other than a card) and 2. what is appropriate. They are close friends-my husbands best man and his wife. My mom suggested a savings bond. Any other ideas anyone wants throw out there?

Re: Baptism gift?

  • The Svgs Bond is kind of cliche, but I agree with your mom that it's a good idea.  Plus it'll last long enough for the baby to get some use out of it.  If you weren't close to them, no need for a gift.

  • Get a baby story Bible. There are so many kinds available that it's almost impossible that they'll end up with a duplicate, and there are some versions that are actually "baby" books that are the smushy pages that a baby can chew on, or board books so that the pages are easier to turn. They're always written in story form so that parents can read the stories to their child.

  • The savings bond is a good idea. You could do the baby bible or cross that you get blessed to be put in the baby's room too.

  • I've seen really nice banks (like a silver or somesort) with the child's name engraved.  Then you could put in some money too.  (either a bill, or $5 in quarters or something like that.)

This made me chuckle. If you watch Teen Mom 2 Jenelles mom (who has custody of her child) told her to get Jace a silver cup with his name on it for his 1st birthday.

However, I actually think Molesons idea is very cute.

Hey now!  DON'T compare me to Janelle's mom!!!! Wink  If Jace turns out anything like his mom, he'd probably be drinking beer out of the nice silver cup by the time he's 13.

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I will probably go with a savings bond rather than a bible as the couple aren't actually that religious (I think they're going through with the baptism mostly to appease the Grandparents).

And, I do watch teen mom and Jenelles mom is crazy. But, I might be kind of crazy too if I had a kid like Jenelle. I also think that Joe kid is RIDICULOUS.
