K8

Your new siggy pic is so darn cute!  I don't think your DD could get any cuter!

Re: K8

  • Ahh, thank you so much. She was trying on every dress up outfit she has that day, and then she had to clean her kitchen. So funny.

That cuteness helps her out - a lot - on mornings like the awful one we had today. Wink

  • Oh no!  Sorry about the rough morning.

Does she go to dance class?  That kind of looks like a dance costume.

  • It's a hand-me-down from someone my mom works with. She calls it her "abby dabby" dress (Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street). I think I'm going to try to get her in dance classes soon though. She'd probably love it.

  • LOL at Abby Dabby!

How old is she now?  Usually, over the summer most dance schools will offer some sort of 'dance camp'.  It's a nice way to see if your LO will like it since it's not a huge commitment.

  • She'll be 3 in July. If you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them! I have no idea where to start looking.

  • Sorry, I have no idea about your area.  Just make sure they keep the emphasis on creative movement, not actual dance 'steps'.  You may see a few 'real' dance steps, but not many.

They should be learning how to skip, gallop, jumping, follow directions (up/down, open/close, etc), take turns, play with props (like scarves, magic wand, maracas).

Class should be no more than an hour... maybe an hour and a half max.  Some do a arts & craft project during the summer camp class.

I hope she tries it!  She'd make such a cute ballerina!

  • Duh, I always forget you're not here. Boo.

Thanks for the tips, I never would have thought of any of that, but your description of a dance class sounds like a lot more fun than the dance I had when I was little. I HATED it.

  • I wish I was there.  Boo too.

I teach from age 10ish & up.  But the younger classes that I was describing look like so much fun.  The teachers for that age at my school are so fun.  For the summer camp, they have a different theme each day (princesses, pirates, animals).  Any chance I get, I go in there to play with them.

Although, my teenagers probably wouldn't be opposed to pretending they were a lion.  Explaining that to their parents might be a different story though.

When you took dance, did you stand at the barre for hours repeating what some guy said on a record?  Thankfully, I haven't seen anyone do that in a while.

  • Yes! And the teacher lady was MEAN. I only did the little kid stuff for a few years, and I was truly terrible at it. I still am, lol. I did like the tap shoes, and we always went to the donut shop across the street after class.

  • LOL.  It's different now.  It should be anyway.  If you see some little old lady put on that record... RUN!

Let me know if you sign her up or find a place.  If they have a website, I can tell a lot about them by what's on there.

  • Will do, thanks!

  • ::butting in:: She is so stinkin cute I was going to make a post like this for you.

As a former dancer from the bay area, if you can find a place that offers Dance Tree I highly recommend that for young ones. The do stretches as well as combine 2 types of dance usually ballet and tap together. They also offer Parent/me classes for interaction and assistance.
