Re: s/o "Make me jealous." Proposal stories!
Lazy! lol You couldn't even copy and paste? haha.
We decide to go for a hike one cloudy summer day.
We drive up to Snowbowl (the local ski area- which has good hiking in the summer) with the puppy.
We are testing out our new camera taking lots of beautiful nature pictures.
We walk by a beautiful place. It is a small little area off the trail. It has 6 benches and a podium. I am thinking to myself this would be a beautiful place to get married some day. We take lots of pictures of it. And then we spot a deer. So we take pictures of that. And then continue our hike.
We walk up the mountain for a while and decide to take a water break and rest. We are taking pictures of the dog and of flowers. We take pictures of the rain clouds that are forming.
Then we decide to continue hiking before the rain comes down. After walking a small portion of the hike since our stop Brandon says he wants to stop and rest again.
I am annoyed that this point and want to keep going since we just took a break, but Brandon insists on stopping. So me... who drank too much water decides we can take a break so I can go behind the bushes. Milo decides he wants to join and comes running up the mountain knocking me over making me go on my shoes. When I walk down the mountain Brandon is standing at a rock.
He asks me to come closer. When I step over the rock I see a ring in a box sitting on the rock. Brandon gets down on one knee and asks if I will marry him. At this point I totally bursts out into tears.
I don't remember anything else until I have the ring on my finger and I am kissing him. Tears still running down my face and Brandon with the camera photographing the evidence. I don't know if I ever did say yes- because there is no evidence of that and I don't remember. lol.
After the proposal- I decide to be a brat- to break the ice from my cryfest. I asked why he didn't do it before I peed on her shoe.. Brandon answers "oh honey..only you would complain about a wedding proposal."
We continue the hike to calm our nerves. Taking pictures the rest of the way.
I had a bachellorette with my sorority sisters the night before...and a sinus infection.....jeremy met me down at my parents house where he'd shown my parents the ring (he'd asked them months before). We made plans to go to dinner with a bunch of our friends for his birthday sunday. My MOH and one of my bridesmaids were in on the whole thing....but i didnt know it yet. Im doped up on sinus meds, im hungoverish and we hung out all day....running errands etc....
so we all get to the resturaunt, he asks to sit in a particular spot...im so sick im like whatever...its your birthday (my catch phrase thru the story) everyone gets there. we eat...(my dinner was horrible...their alfredo was basically a can of mushroom soup and pasta.....i hate mushrooms......so i had french fries and a diet coke because i didnt want to drink on cold meds....
so he goes "well i want to flip my chair around this window crank is digging into my back" again "whatever its your birthday who cares" so then my moh and bridesmaids start taking photos....im like ugh fine (by this time i'd gone to pee and they all had seen the ring and knew) so i take photos....and jeremy leans over and goes "so how was your dinner?" I go "it sucked, again..its your bithday who cares thats all that matters!" He goes "well, will this make you feel better????" and slides to the floor and pulls out a box.....im like "WHAT????SERIOUSLY?????SERIOUSLY?????" crying laughing crying.....crying.....i dont even remember him asking me....or saying yes....i like blacked out.....meanwhile the whole thing is in photos......because they all had cameras out....oi......
it was good...the surprise factor was phenomenal.......just somedays wish it was alittle more romantic...but its totally....us....he's a surpriser

Our story is ridiculous, and part of me wishes it was more traditional and romantic, but that's just not us. The night we got engaged was funny. Clinton proposed to me when I was in the WORST possible mood EVER. We were living 4 hours apart (I was still in Birmingham) & I'd stayed up literally all night finishing the scrapbook I was making him for Christmas. I went to work that morning & then drove straight from work to Kentucky. There was a thunderstorm & roads were a nightmare, so by the time I got here, I was a pissed off cranky mess. Clinton had planned on taking me out to a nice (very late!) dinner, but I wasn't having it, so I had him take me to the Rally's drive-thru. I just wanted to eat my cheese fries and CRASH. Poor guy wanted to be romantic & I totally killed it. But he had it in his head that THAT was the night he was going to ask me, and even though I was being a TOTAL b!tch (My assessment, not his. He knows better than to ever say that, haha.), he wasn't giving up on that night.
So we got our drive-thru junk food & came home. Before I was going to sit down & eat, I just wanted to get in my pajamas. But before I could even do that, Clinton pointed at some candy on his desk & told me to try some. It was a bag of those Ghiradelli mint & chocolate squares.
Continuing with my exhausted cranky b!tch mood, I said no, I just wanted to eat my dinner & fall asleep with him. He kept pushing me to try one & I kept telling him no, I've had them before, I wasn't in the mood for chocolate, I just wanted to eat & crash. Finally like the 4th time he told me to eat one, I told him to cut it out & he said something like, "Just open the damn bag, will you please?!" I reached into the bag & pulled out a little black box. THE little black box, haha. I opened it, and it was empty. I turned around & he was down on one knee behind me, holding a ring. I immediately started crying (I partly blame this on being exhausted), which made Clinton get all teary-eyed (which hardly EVER happens). He said he knew things wouldn't always be perfect (so very appropriate for that night), but that he wanted to be with me & be my best friend & take care of me every day the rest of his life.
To this day he says I never actually said yes. He was still on his knee & I was doing the happy cry & totally interrupted his big proposal by getting down on my knee & kissing him. I was so happy. It's funny to look back & remember that the night we got engaged, I gave him a super hard time & he was super stubborn. That's just us. :-P

Yay proposal stories! So cute!
We were at Disneyland about a week before my birthday. On the 2nd night we were there, we had just gotten off a ride and the park was closed (about 12:20am, so techonically on July 29, 2009). As we were walking back to the hotel, he says he has to use the restroom. My thoughts were, You can't just wait 5 minutes? I later found out he went in there to take the ring out of his wallet.
We were walking along and we started walking by the castle. He then says, "Let's go sit down." Again, my exuasted thoughts were, Seriously? Let's go sleep. (I didn't say any of this outloud, though I told him this later). So he's sitting there, not talking, and we're looking at the ducks. He looked nervous, and I had a hunch that he was about to propose.
He said some wonderful things about about us, then he got on one knee and proposed. I got teary eyed, but did not cry, and said "Of course!" and hugged him. Then we walked back to our hotel room, where he had champagne (somehow missed that in his luggage lol), and.....had a lovely night
So I'm going to sounds like a total b!tch right now but.. this sounds almost like the first time Brandon asked me. I was tired, sick and cranky. He brought me home some chocolate to "make me feel better" I was just upset he was late coming home bc I had waited up for him. He begged me to open the chocolate and have some. I kept refusing. Then totally upset I opened the bag and there were three chocolate covered strawberries and a ring. I said no. And don't ever ask me again when I'm tired and cranky and in such a lame way- he didn't even get down on one knee. and I don't blame him. I'm so glad with all my heart he knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him- and he knew I was just being crazy and still loved me anyway and he asked me again!
Yeah Brooke! :-P

My students were working on a project independently and I was putting grades in the computer at my desk. For some reason we had the lights off in my classroom (perhaps we had just finished with the Smart Board). The overhead lights turned on, so I looked over to see why and there is Ken in my doorway (followed by my little sister w/a videocamera). I immediately knew why he was there and I just put my head in my hands. He came over to my desk and got on one knee and asked me to marry him. You can hear the one girl in my class say "Awwwww" really loud on the video. The rest of the class was 17 & 18 year old boys who had no clue what was going on. The guidance counselor, principal, and secretary were all in the hall watching. I love that we have the video of it, my sister had to take the afternoon off work to come out with him.
Typing that story makes me smile!
We were at the beach with my parents all day Saturday relaxing because we were closing on our house on Monday. At the beach, Mike kept asking me about places around town that he should know now that he'd be living there. We got back to my parents, took quick showers (no make-up or drying of the hair, threw on a sundress!) and Mike and I left to pick up my Mom-mom. On the way, he asked me what this "lake" was that I talked about and asked if I could go there. We pulled in and he freaked about the old chain swings so we hopped on and starting swingning. He started asking me if I was sure if I was OK with moving in our house without being engaged first. I said yes (lie!) and he said ?Are you sure?? and I said ?Yes, are you?? and he said ?No?. By that time we had both hopped off the swings and before I knew it he was down on one knee saying all the right things and asking the big question. I never even looked at the ring, I just kept saying "are you serious, oh my God, YES!" We hugged and cried for a minute. We went straight back to my parents to tell them - and that's the first time I saw my ring! We went and picked up Mom-mom then called the entire world lol
So, we took our E Pics at the lake, some on the actual swing. We also took wedding photos at the lake, but they tore down those swings in the meantime and it broke my heart!
Aw, thats are great! I love that so many people don't know if they actually said yes.
Kearstin- that swing pic and the significance is precious!
Our story:
Before I joined the gym it used to be our Saturday routine (we were living together) that I'd sleep in and DH would go to the gym. DH texted me saying that he ended up taking Oscar (puppy at the time, 4 mo old) for a walk, and Oscar was doing so well that they made it to the dog beach (on Lake Michigan, about a mile from our apartment). DH told me to run to the beach and meet them to play.
So I got ready and ran there. I decided to take my phone w/me bc DH is infamous for telling me to meet somewhere and then actually not being there. So I ran to the beach and couldn?t see them, so I called DH and he said to follow the parking lot and they were hanging out at a grassy part on the end of the pier.
By this point, I knew something was up, because there was no way the Oscar could walk that far (one way), let alone have energy to play at the beach and be able to make it home. So I kept running and as I got closer I saw that DH was wearing jeans and a polo - not gym attire.
When I got close, DHpicked Oscar up and got down on one knee?then Irealized that Oscar was wearing a leather collar that said ?Will you marry me??, and there was a ring hanging off of the collar. Of course I said yes and we kissed and hugged. I was teary-eyed but too stunned to cry. Afterward, DH pulled back the blanket he had been sitting on to reveal another blanket underneath with roses spread around, champagne, and a picnic breakfast.
It's funny that so many of you commented about not saying yes, bc I tease DH that I don't think he actually said "Will you marry me?, and he says he didn't have to since it was on the collar.

Getting fit for IVF!
I love reading these stories! Sorry to those of you who have heard/seen mine before. Here goes...
It was the week before Thanksgiving 2009. Our church was having a talent show and Chavis is the worship leader there, so we decided we were going to perform a song together. I have NEVER sung in front of an audience before, so I was terrified. I invited my mom and dad since it was a special occasion. Little did I know that Chavis had gone to my dad's house the day before and asked for my hand in marriage!
My mom and I were clueless.
Everyone performed and I was so proud that I made it through. After the last person performed our pastor came up and said that there was one song left and Chavis would close us out. I didn't think anything about it since he is the worship leader. He went up to the keyboard and...

Brooke, I seriously love that video!! I get all chocked up as soon as I see you see him up close then when he gets down on his knee I have no idea how you were still standing on two feet!!! hahah
Side note - poor Mike set up his camera on the go-around next to the swings and set it to record.. apparently the record is set to a timer so it literally gets us on the swings, us talking, and the moment he drops to a knee it STOPS! He was absolutely devastated that it wasn't fully captured but I still love it and watch it every once in awhile.
When it happened
Sunday, April 04, 2010The Proposal ...
DH proposed on Easter Sunday. The neighbors had a small get together for pina coladas out by their pool prior to Easter dinner at ttheir neice's house. It was a nice sunny spring afternoon - perfect for tropical drinks on the patio. I had no idea what was about to happen but the neighbors had been clued in. So we have pictures.
DH had bought Easter chocolates for all the ladies - eggs for the two neighbors and a 2 pound chocolate Easter bunny for me. I was baffled to receive a large chocolate bunny as we are both trying to lose a couple of pounds and I had returned from Germany a week before with really good chocolate. What I had not noticed was the small ring box inside the box with the bunny. After DH pulled out the ring box, he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. I do remember saying yes.
DH later admitted he bought the ring about two weeks before when I left for Germany. I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder. We had been looking at rings the first few weeks on March and I thought we were still looking. The night before the proposal we went dancing and to dinner with another couple. They had been married a year or so. They mentioned that for their proposal he bought a throw down ring so she could later pick what she wanted. i was thinking about that when DH pulled the ring box out but as soon as he opened it I recognized it as the ring that I liked the most. The jewler had designed it and was not making any more. He was afraid by the time I decided it was the one it would be gone.
C&P'd from our planning site, because I'm lazy.
October 1, 2009, I picked up Zach from class and we went to lunch at McCord's downtown, with the plan of looking at rings at the jewelry store afterward. Zach mentioned during lunch that he wanted to go take a walk now that it's fall, and just get out in nature for a bit. He said someone told him that the Horticulture Park at Purdue had leaves that were changing. I thought we'd go after we gone done at the jewelers since it was closest, and we finished lunch and left. As I'm parking the truck, Zach started up again about wanting to go for a walk at the park. I was able to get him to agree to spend 30 minutes at the jewelers, and we'd spend the rest of the time before he had to be back at class at the park. We didn't make it to the jewelers, as I finally gave in and we went back to the truck and on to the park. Once there, we walked around a little, with him stopping every now and then, claiming to find a tree to hide under since it was starting to rain. We'd passed by a little grove of trees with a park bench situated underneath, and eventually went back to it. I'd been wearing a ring on my left hand to work, passing it off as an engagement ring in an attempt to fool some of the creepy people that come into the store. He now mentioned that he was glad I wasn't wearing it today, that he wanted me to wear his ring instead. He told me how much he loved me, and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, then got on one knee, and I muttered "Oh my God". All I remember from there is seeing this tan box, with him asking "will you marry me?", and then the box opened to reveal the most beautiful ring I've ever seen.
Our bench that he proposed next to in Horticulture Park:
All of you have such cute and sweet stories!!
I knew that Steve had ordered my ring, but I had not seen it yet. I told him my dad would want Steve to ask him first before we got engaged. I had to go with Steve to ask my dad (a little awkward!).
When my ring came in, we went to dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant. I told him that I would like him to get on one knee. He said he didn't want to do that in the middle of the restaurant. So I said "OK, but you have to say really sweet and romantic stuff if you don't get on your knee." and he agreed.
We ordered, and while we were waiting for the food to come, he pulled out the ring and said "will you be my wife?" I said yes, and my parents took this picture when we got home and showed them the ring:

I was a little disappointed that I didn't get a big romantic or surprise proposal, but Steve does sweet romantic things all the time, so I guess it makes up for it.
We actually got engaged twice. The first time I knew he had gotten the ring, but he kept it for several months and never proposed. Then one weekend we were hanging out and got into a big fight. I pretty much said I was done and went to walk out, and he took the ring out, tossed it on the bed and said ?I was going to ask you to marry me tonight and now you?ve ruined it!? Blah blah blah, eventually I slipped the ring on and we were officially engaged, romantic, huh? lol. About 2 months later, we broke up, I gave the ring back, and we didn?t speak for a few months; it was one of the hardest times of my life but I have great friends and an amazing family and knew I?d be ok. I went on a couple dates and just couldn?t stop thinking about him, and apparently he was going through the same thing because he randomly called me one day and we decided to get together. We then started dating again and dated for 8 months. We went to the beach together for a long weekend and on our last night there we decided to take a blanket out on the beach and watch the waves roll in. We started talking and he asked me if I ever thought I?d want to marry him again. I said, ?yes, I probably would, some day? (knowing I?d marry him that second if I could), then he pulled out a ring and said, ?Well, then will you marry me?? Right as I said yes and kissed him, people down the beach started setting off fireworks which was just by chance, but it made the night even more special. Definitely better than the first proposal lol.
Mine is so not romantic at all.
Lance and I had looked at rings and had an idea of what I wanted. We had the jeweler bring in a ring from their other store that was similar to what I had been looking at, I told Lance that he could go look at it when it came in because I was done and the rest was up to him. Well he went and looked and apparently bought but it had to be made because they make them with a CZ in the center so you can put in your own diamond (size and quality).
We went to an OOT wedding with my family and somehow it came up when him and I were talking and he said that he already bought my ring, which I didn't believe. So we got home and he showed me the receipt that had the amount on it but he didn't show me the picture that they drew. He told me that it would be done in a few weeks, well I highly dislike surprises, so knowing that he had the ring and I didn't know what it looked like or when he was going to ask was making me nuts.
One night we were at home and I was harassing him about seeing the ring and when he was going to ask me. He finally got p!ssed off and went up stairs got the ring came down to me (I was laying on the couch) and knelt down and said "will you spend the rest of your life with me?" I of course said yes and then I laughed and hugged him and admired my ring.
In the end I am pretty upset that I was such an A-hole about it, but oh well.
I haven't seen that. But I def burst into tears. You are a lucky woman!
