XP: Black tie event...don't know what to wear!
One of my husband's players is receiving a national award and there's a black tie dinner for it. DH will be in a tux, but I have no idea what to wear. I have some cocktail type dresses, but I'm not sure if they're OK. This is the one I'm thinking...what do you think? Not dressy enough? Help me shop if you think I need something else!http://www.styleceo.com/maggy-london-ruffle-dress-8713188/p/8713188/
Re: XP: Black tie event...don't know what to wear!
Can I wear something like this with a big necklace and great shoes?

The one you posted is definitely not dressy enough. Sorry, I'm no good with helping you shop since I've never met you, but I'd definitely look for something more formal.
ETA: I think you might be able to get away with the JCrew one you posted, with good jewelry and shoes like you said, plus fabulous hair.
Black tie for Women usually means long dresses. Your first option I would say no. I don't know about the 2nd one. It depends on how formal the event is.

I know...this is the problem. I don't know how formal the event is...I'm trying to find out, but this means having DH ask the player's mom...lol!
I agree the first one is probably not dressy enough. Did you receive a formal invitation yet? Does it say "black tie, or Black tie Optional" on it ? If it said either of these things, I'd go with a longer dress.

Something more like this.
Yes, it says black tie...no optional.
I'd think gown then.
I like BCBG's dresses. Here's a link to their black tie dresses:

Yeah neither of those look like black tie to me. It's partly the length, in the first it's also the cut and neither of the fabrics look black tie. I agree to think evening gown. Do you have time to shop online or is it really soon?
I think this would look cute on you:

Yeah, I definitely think you need a long gown. Here are a few I like:
#1
#2
#3
LOVE the first 2...don't think DH will go for $300 though :-(
In fact...I think I'm obsessed with #2...how to convince DH now...
Yep...found this one that I like, but they only have purple in my size. Not sure that's the right color for me though...

Convince him! #2 is such a beautiful gown.
OK, here's me helping you justify... #2 is actually my favorite too. It's gorgeous. Monique Lhuillier is going to be a really high quality dress. It's also a very flattering, classic dress (strapless, navy blue, fairly simple/elegant design) - so it's not a trendy dress you'll hate in six months. You will be able to wear it for years to come to other fancy events, weddings, etc. It's also under $200, and you probably have shoes and jewelry in your closet already that will go with it (or you can find something pretty affordable.)
Sell it baby!!! I think that dress would look amazing on you. Maybe buy it and try it on for him - he won't be able to say no when he sees it on you
You can always return it if it's a no-go...
I am all in for this dress too. Seriously.
You can (as cliche as this sounds) shorten it for other parties and weddings (since the color is totally appropriate for weddings). Or you could sell it when you are done for 1/2 the price and then it wont be a $200 gown

EJ is growing up too fast!
