help! what can I take?

I pinched a nerve in my neck this morning. It's BAD. I already took two aleve this morning but it's really not cutting it. Can I take anything else? I'm dying here.

Re: help! what can I take?

  • my 1st thought is something that will relax the muscles. also an anti inflammatory. that sucks. damn baby socks!

  • ouch! i think once you've taken aleve, you shouldn't take anything for awhile. i think i'd take advil when you can. sorry mama! i've pinched nerves, it SUCKS!

  • Sarah, I can take tylenol on top of the aleve? I'm almost crying in pain. ugh.
  • what time did you take the aleve????

i would say yes. i battle headaches and sometimes have to take meds sooner then reccommended and im fine. well almost fine.

  • early, like 7:30 ish?
  • ok, take some advil. i'd eat a little first just to be extra careful.

  • I'm pretty sure you can piggy back the tylenol. Don't take it like candy, but if you took the aleve around 7:30, you should be safe for the tylenol.

I *think* you may even be able to take an advil/motrin but I'm not sure.

  • Not sure if this is available near you (it's not at CVS generally, but if you have some sort of family owned pharmacy, they might have it) it's called Percogesic.  It's a muscle relaxer and it's over the counter, non-addictive, etc.  When I kicked narcotic pain meds to the curb for an illness I have, I started taking that and it really works wonders, it would especially help something like a pinched nerve.

    Walgreen's might have it, too.

  • Eff, that sucks.  Coming in late on this, but you can definitely alternate the Aleve (OR Advil, but not both) with Tylenol.  The Aleve & Advil are both anti-inflammatory + pain relievers (vs the Tylenol which, in this case, works only as a pain reliever), so those would be your best bet.  If it's not better, or you feel like it's getting worse, you may want to get yourself to a doc or walk-in clinic to get a script for some muscle relaxers, but be forewarned - those bad boys will make you sleepy as hell.

I'm working every day this week except Thursday, so if you need me, stop by or call - I'm happy to help out if I can.
