I came across some rather unflattering reviews of the inn on Tybee Island, GA where we had planned to stay for our anniversary...to be fair, there were 170 positive reviews vs. 30 negative, but there was a common theme throughout the negative ones (of most importance to me was that the inn keepers weren't particularly friendly) that I found a bit alarming....
Soooo....I made an executive decision to change our location to one that, while not on the beach, is actually in the historic district of Savannah, and has amazing reviews and well, I'll just say that I am much more excited about this place than the last :-)
I kind of haven't told the husband yet, and since this room rate is almost twice the amount per night of original choice, that should be an interesting conversation! To soften the blow a little I did put the deposit down already, and hopefully he'll be as thrilled as I am about celebrating in Savannah, and visiting the beach instead of staying on the beach...we'll see ![]()

Re: Anniversary Trip - Slight change of plans!
Thank you!!! I was just really nervous when so many people wrote that the inn keepers at the first place were cold and rather unfriendly. Especially since I kind of had that same feeling when I was booking the stay.
An example:
At the first place, the innkeeper was really sort of blase on the phone when I was booking. When I told her that it was our anniversary trip and we staying there to celebrate, she gave no reaction, didn't even say "congratulations"...not that she had to, but it was just a business as usual attitude...
At the Azalea Inn & Gardens where we just booked, they were super warm and friendly and I guess, welcoming on the phone when we spoke. And when I told her that it was our anniversary trip, she sounded really excited for us, said "congratulations" and right away said that she would make a note for a special "treat" for us on our anniversary evening. She even emailed suggestions for really nice places for us to go and have dinner in Savannah. The difference was like night and day!
You are going to love it! I lived in Savannah two years ago and it is such a great place to visit. It is definitely worth it to be in the historic district. There is so much to do within walking distance...great bars and restaurants...and lots of cool buildings to look at.
Your husband is going to be so happy and you are going to have an amazing trip!
Update:
I told Hubby! He called me at work to chat and I bit the bullet...he sounded a little exasperated at first (he knows that I am a fanatic about excellent customer service, whereas he is more happy go lucky about stuff like that), but then he admitted that if we had stayed there, and I had a bad experience, then it could possibly put a cloud on our anniversary celebration, and it wasn't worth it.
Yay! He trusts me on my "feelings" about things, and I got a pretty bad vibe about that place all of a sudden. So thanks for the kind words, girls...looks like we have a plan :-))
Good thing you did your research ahead of time - or you might have been disappointed! You are going to have a great time
