RE: Helping Patty EDITED/UPDATED

In talking with Patty more, I have convinced (ok so maybe we talked more logic) her that if we send her money, that we can always send her money, she can see if she will need it, if not she can then make a monetary donation to an organization.

My thinking is our money will go further if we don't need to pay shipping for the actual items. And who knows how long it will actually take the supplies to get over there.

I was corrected on my thinking of the Paypal fees..... So contact BeckF4, her email is in her original post, to make donations!

Re: RE: Helping Patty EDITED/UPDATED

  • I'm definitely want to help... Just tell me how.

Patty - Please tell us what would be best for you and for the people around you.

  • I already sent $$$ to Becky.

I am thinking it might be better to send the money to Patty and she can use it for what she needs to. If she can not use it, then she can make a donation to one of the places she mentioned or Red Cross on our behalf.

I think with shipping items, it may take a while unless they know it is for those displaced by the earthquake and tsumani??

  • Thank you guys (again! I have a lot to keep thanking you all for today)!

I'm trying to convince Kim I don't need money sent to me personally since I have no idea what's going to happen or when and how I'll be able to best use it, but she brought up the point that if all else fails I can forward it on to the Red Cross from here. I can see how it would be nice to know that your money is going directly to people in the area rather than getting eaten up in administrative costs or something. So if you want to do that... I'll divert to K to set up the logistics of how since I have no clue. :)

If you just want to donate to the Red Cross or another group, you can do that directly (there's a link on the main CNN page with a bunch of legit links you can donate to).

Any way you want to help, it will be so very, very appreciated. Thank you so much.

I'm thinking that too. It's hard for coordinated relief groups to get supplies to people, so I could imagine it would take quite a while for individual boxes to find their ways into the hands of those who need supplies. I think monetary donations might be a bit more efficient (but any way anyone wants to donate will definitely be helpful!).

  • Oh... And if there's anything we can do emotionally to support you, we're here. Come and vent, etc any time. :)

I feel like I'm on repeat, but I don't want you to feel like I'm just spitting out meaningless thank you's. Very truly, that gives me a lot of comfort. I am very grateful.

  • MrsBoomBoom told me that Paypal doesn't have fees if you aren't a business and not taking credit cards. If that is the case then that works!

    BeckF4: is that the case?

No need to thank me. It is what I would do and I feel helpless in wake of this tragedy. So consider my donations and a listening ear is the help you need :-)

  • Based on what I'm reading Patty saying in her posts, I'm planning to make monetary donations to the Red Cross, but I hope you know Patty - if the time comes that you do need (or could use) absolutely ANYthing (monetary or otherwise), you can always ALWAYS come here for funds/goods raising and support.  Even if/when you get the money/goods being collected here from nesties...never feel like you can't come back here to inquire if there is an ability for us to do more.  I am grateful to be able to do something (via monetary donations to RC), no matter how small, to help the people devastated by this tragedy.  Big big hugs to you!!

Ok, tears starting now. Thank you.

    I agree.

I just donated to Red Cross through my company (who matches donations)...

  • I think they plan to donate directly to Patty is a great idea and I in no way want to disparage it because it was so thoughtful but I do think it would be more effective to donate through something like Red Cross. I just want to make sure it gets there and fast. Like Stef said if Patty asks for some specific help, I know we'll all jump to pitch in.
  • Some of the people that wanted to send money to Patty are going to send money directly to the Red Cross. Haven't heard back from everyone yet. It's so great how everyone is so willing to help!!!!
  • I'm going to check with my company matching program tomorrow. Thank you for the reminder of that Angela.
