I feel like I'm going to have a complete breakdown.
I'm trying so hard to get her approved for Medicaid, and I'm hitting every road block known to man. I finally got her enrolled in Early Intervention, but apparently the rest of the programs offered by the state are only available to children on Medicaid. Well because of our income apparently we're on a huge waiting list.
I tried to get her approved for SSI. We got denied for that too. H makes too much money. Never mind all the expenses we have, and will have for our special needs child, who has to have OPEN HEART SURGERY!
And to top it off, thanks to some changes in the tax laws for last year, we owe the IRS $14,000. FML. We pay out the ass for taxes and can't even get help for our daughter.
My H is out of town this week, so it's our first week on our own, and I already feel like I'm going to lose it. Oh, and to top it off, someone from a state agency actually suggested that if H and I were to get divorced, that Kennedy would be eligible for Medicaid and additional assistance. REALLY??? Are you freaking kidding me???

Re: I just need to vent...
Uggh ...
That person from the state agency should be slapped upside the head for making such a stupid comment about getting divorced. Yet, it somehow shows how f*d up the policies in place are.

PAIF/SAIF/PGAL welcome
Wow. I can't believe someone actually suggested you get divorced!! It's crazy the amount of hoops you have to jump through. I'm sorry. I wish I had a solution for you. Keep your head up & keep trying.
What does the Early Intervention do? That's some progress. Maybe someone there will be able to point you in the right direction or knows how to work the system.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
Please let me know if you and your H need a night out, or if you want a Wednesday morning/afternoon alone. I'd be more than happy to come babysit (H can watch DD anytime).
That's so sweet of you to offer. I totally am not ready to leave her yet, but maybe soon.
I'm so sorry you are going through that. Seriously, for that person to have made such a suggestion is appalling. I hope you are able to find some loop holes.
Will insurance pay for at least some of her surgery?
Yes...we have a HUGE out of pocket max though. Her deductible is met, but we still have to pay 20%.
ITA. While that state worker's suggestion sounds ridiculous, sadly there are examples of loving couples out there that have gotten legally divorced in order to get life-savings treatments without going bankrupt. It is really sad that any person should ever have to contemplate that.
I'm not expert on applying for any of these programs, but I really hope you are able to find a compassionate person that can help step you through it.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
Isn't that always frustrating. Not only do you have to meet the out of pocket max for you but for LO as well before everything else is covered for the family.
I am sending lots of vibes to you and your family and praying that you will find the assistance you need quickly.
