I found the cutest dress on their website for a wedding I'm going to in 2 weeks but they didn't have it in the color I wanted. It is black on the bottom and the color I wanted was sapphire blue on top, but I ended up settling for one that is ivory on top.
When I got it yesterday though, I reconsidered b/c I was afraid the top 40% being ivory would be inappropriate for a wedding guest. I was so psyched when I went back to Nordstrom's site and it said they had my size in blue again. So I reordered the dress. Then today, Nordstrom cancelled my order. Apparently they screwed up and never had my size. I am so sad. I had gotten so excited about the dress, but now I think the ivory/black one is a no go for the wedding and the blue one that I was all excited about is never going to be mine. ![]()
Now, the question is, do I keep the ivory/black one anyway and save it to wear for my birthday next month? And if I do, can I justify going and buying yet another dress for the wedding? It wasn't a cheap dress (says the girl who is a true cheapskate at heart).
Given the number of more significant things going on in the world, I fully acknowledge that this whole thread should be filed away as a "white whine".
Re: Nordstrom is toying with my emotions
This is the dress:
At first I thought it would be ok, but I polled MMs last night to get a non-biased opinion and almost everyone said it was a no-go b/c when I'm seated it will look like a wedding dress. Now that the seed of doubt is in my mind I can't imagine wearing it b/c I don't want anyone at the wedding to think I'm being a rude AW.
Can/would you wear it with a colored shawl/shrug/wrap/pashmina? I am usually cold at wedding receptions, so I know I would have something on my shoulders/arms. That would negate the "wedding gown" look. Then you could wear it to both "parties." Or can you remove the bow/embellishment and dye it?
I like this dress, if you want the blue/black look, but it's definitely a different style.

Good point. I really like the dress though. I can see why you want it in blue. Very nice.
Nicole's idea about a black pasmina would work though.
This happened to me with a bridesmaid dress I ordered off of Nordstrom online too, so annoying!
I LOVE that dress you picked out. I think it's totally fine to wear to a wedding especially if you wore some jewelry with it like a necklace that had a lot of black. People wear black and white dresses to weddings all the time and even though it's more of a colorblock look, I think it is definitely acceptable and so cute. I kind of want to order it for myself....
Also did you know that Nordstrom Rack has a website? They have super inexpensive clothing and you can order online. Just an fyi..
