I have an elderly neighbor on our street who is trying to organize and neighborhood watch meeting with a police office in her house in the evening on St. Patrick's day.
She called to see if I was coming, but I told her I had dinner plans, and mentioned that it will be St. Patrick's day. She didn't like that, from the tone in her voice, HAHA! Yes, I will be celebrating my heritage
Re: neighborhood watch
I have a work meeting on St. Patrick's Day. It's not too irritating for me, since it should be over by 6:00, my time...but for those in other time zones, it stinks! It's a meeting that we're "strongly encouraged" to attend, and for those in the Eastern time zone, it doesn't even start until 8:00!
I realize that not everyone goes out to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but still...it seems odd to me.

Wow, that would be a very late meeting on the east coast! Dont they think about people's dinner plans...sometimes we do a family dinner on St. Patrick's day.
i honestly did not know that people celebrated St Patrick's Day as much as they do until this year. I guess since I am not Irish I never realized it.
Its kind of big in my city, we have a parade (and Im Irish/Scottish so its a mini holiday for our family). Although, DH isnt Irish and can never remember when St. Patrick's day is, LOL! I have to remind him that its not like easter...it's always on the 17th.
Kel, you know what's sad? DH is Irish....you know his first and last name, and his middle name is Patrick. He loves rugby and Guinness. He asked me last week when St. Patrick's Day is. I gave him a hard time about it, and he said, "Well, you know, it's like asking when Easter is." And I said, "No, it's like asking when Christmas is....it's the same date every year!"

Oh my, LOL!!!! I tried to tell DH to remember that some people think "lucky" when they think of St. Patrick's day...and number 7 in 17 is usually lucky. He didnt care. ha.
Sidenote, I cant wait to have a black (guinness) and tan (smithwicks) tomorrow
