so remember when we were all brides to be and we were stressed about the smallest details, and a lot of that stress had to do with our bridesmaids?
so my friend is getting married in sept. this year and keeps pressuring me to buy my BM dress. i dont think she is doing it bc she is nervous or stressed, she just wants to have a fun girl weekend where we go pick out my dress together. she has been trying to get me to go every month since december. i am trying to hold off as long as possible because i am really hoping to be down by about 20-30 more pounds by her wedding. i would prefer to wait and get my dress in july (its from DB, any dress i want in a certain color) and not now.
would it stress you out if you were the bride to know that one of your BMs was waiting until summer to get their dress? should i just bite the bullet, go in and get a size 12 now and then pay another chunk of change to get it taken in this summer when i do lose the weight? to me i wasnt stressed as long as my girls had their dresses by the date of the wedding, but i realize i was pretty relaxed about the whole thing...
Re: question--would this bother you?
Since you're getting it from DB, I wouldn't be stressed. And I would totally understand the wanting to lose weight thing. Have you explained that to her? Even if you were to order a bit late, you could pay extra to get it rushed and it probably wouldn't be as much as getting it taken in a ton.
However, I can kind of understand where your friend is coming from. I'm a total control freak. If I were her, I would feel better if you were like "I'm losing weight and getting in shape (WW and 5k as evidence) and I want to wait. Let's go on this exact date in July and get it then."
P.S. I cannot believe that you're anywhere near a size 12, you seem smaller than that.

Woke up. Still queen.
Not really. I told my girls they needed to order their dresses by May because it was an online site and their inventory changed over every June. The end of July rolled around and no one had a dress. So I dragged them all into DB and they had to pay more for the dresses than any of the ones from the online site. I freaked out a bit that week because it was 7 weeks til the wedding and they had nothing to wear.
But if you have the dress picked out and are just waiting to order it I wouldn't worry about it at all.

On on the fence w/ this one
I can see why you want to wait since you're losing weight and why pay a hefty alteration fee to have the dress taken.
but my girls got dresses from DB and their leadtime was 6-8 weeks to just have the dress brought in in their size, thats not w/ alterations...2 of my girls waited until mid july to order them and it all worked out but the dresses weren't ready until the week before the wedding and i was freaking out
I would call DB and ask how long it generally takes to get that dress in. The dresses I had my girls get were in within 8 days. BUT I had a co-workers who's dress for her sister's wedding took 1-2 MONTHS!
I think it might depend on the style, popularity, etc. If DB says it shouldn't take long, then I say wait and make sure that your friend knows that you talked to DB and they said it would be ok.
Is she the type of friend where you can just ask her if it will stress her out for you to wait to order your dress? Or maybe you can compromise - go in like May so you have plenty of lead time (I know, July still is plenty of lead time) but still have a couple months to drop a few more lbs.
It wouldn't stress me out - but I was more like you...they could have shown up in burlap sacks and I would have been fine with it.
Have u thought about ordering the dress in a size 10? Then that will give you motivation to lose the weight and if you have to alter, it won't be such a hefty job. I did that when I was MOH in '09. My friend was pressuring us all to order at the same time (we got a group discount), so I just picked a random size, it didn't fit, then I dieted my asss off (literally) to fit into it. However, in my case, it was 2 dresss sizes too small, so it was stressful for me. But if you went just one size smaller, it probably won't be that big of a deal.
For me personally, b/c I was such a bridezilla, I would want you to order the dress in July as per my wishes. But I also see everyone else's point of it being a DB dress and they could get it in pretty quickly. So basically, I'm no help
QOA--you are sweet, I am actually a size 14!! i am fitting into some of my size 12 jeans again though, and i cannot wait to be a size 10 again
you are all right, i should really just talk to her and see what she thinks. if it will stress her out, then i will go sooner rather than later (aka next month) and we can go from there. otherwise, i will just go in july.
my few experiences with DB have been different. one dress i needed for myself as a BM needed to be ordered and it took about 6 weeks to come in. my other two experiences were with MY bridesmaids and they could pick any black dress, so they just got htem off the rack.

Since it's any style dress you want and it's from DB, I'd be ok with you waiting, but probably not until July. Can you go at the end of May or in June?
I know for me it wasn't necessarily that I thought things wouldn't get done, it was just that if I could get it taken care of and not have it hanging out there on a lengthy to do/to make sure of/to check on list, that was what I really wanted.

I'm on the fence too. My MOH waited and waited and waited to get her dress. By the time she went to get it, it was too late they wouldn't be able to get the dress in time. I would at least give yourself 4 months prior to the wedding to get the dress.
