Strictly speaking eloping with just you, DH and maybe a few friends, not a destination wedding, did you ever consider it? Did DH?

Re: poll: eloping
Yeah, we talked about it but didn't look into it that much at the time.
Insteresting story...DH and I went to Vegas with a bunch of friends for Superbowl weekend in 2007, so we had been dating for about 8 months at the time. We were all at Delmonico for a nice dinner..eating, drinking tons of champange/wine and having a ball. During dinner DH turns to me and whispered that we should get married while we were there. I was completely shocked but turned him down (nicely of course) since there was so much alcohol involved that I didn't want us to do one of those spur of the moment drunken elopements with an Elvis impersonator. I felt really bad cause I think I really hurt his feelings and he looked upset that I said "No".
Yes. My mom said she'd give us $5k cash if we eloped. Now I wish we would've.
Although I think it would've broken his mother's heart. Weddings are a big deal on that side of the family. It's pretty much a competition between the mothers. BIL had a shotgun wedding & she definitely used our rehearsal dinner as a means to make up for the hastily thrown together wedding for BIL.
I'm going to a wedding Friday night. We're closer friends with the parents of the bride than the actual couple. We were talking to the mom and she said she offered them $10k cash to courthouse it, or even to do a cruise wedding that she'd pay for.....and they turned it down. If I had that option, I'm not sure I could turn it down. haha (It's a plantation wedding in New Orleans. I've been hearing about all the little details....I'm stinkin' excited to see it. haha)
We actually did elope! We weren't sure if we were going to do the big wedding, and DH was heading to the Middle East on deployment, so we did the courthouse thing before he left. We decided to do the big wedding when he got back 8 months later.
If I had it to do again, I'd totally ignore the big wedding. Though I enjoyed my day, there was so much stress/drama involved in the planning and months leading up to it, I don't think I'd put myself through it again. Looking back, I'd probably just have both families together for a day in the mountains, then we'd steal away for a few days alone.
"My 101 List - Updating asap, I swear!
No, we never considered eloping. It was too important for us to have our immediate family and close friends there.
I am so, so, SO glad we changed our original wedding plans to something much smaller and more intimate. 14 guests was perfect, IMO.
I seriously considered it, but he only brought it up when I was stressed out and losing my mind planning the larger wedding he really wanted. Right after I'd put down a non-refundable deposit that put me in the poor house, he would say, "See, I said we should elope." No, what YOU said was, "We can't just have a small wedding!!! Everyone will be so upset that they can't come! What do you mean only 80 people!?!?!? Oh, there's a more expensive option? Let's do that!"
We actually also were in Vegas while we were engaged and saw people getting married. He mentioned that he supposed if EVERYONE (see a trend) came to Vegas with you, it would be fun. So the idea of us actually doing it never came up.
