So Liza has had a cold for 13 days. I took her in to the doctor last friday just to be sure that it was a cold and nothing else.
Well, she is not getting better at all. I can hear the congestion in her chest and hate hearing her cough.
I called to talk to the nurse, but she wasn't any help. She said they would see Liza if I was concerned or thought she was worse, but if I thought she was the same or better then she probably doesn't need to be seen.
I'm so torn. She was her 9mo appointment on Monday so I hate to bring her in for no reason again. I just get so worried that she has something else, you know?
Her temperature hasn't gone above 99.5 (but maybe i never gave it a chance since I will give her tylenol when I notice she is warm-she usually gets fussy) so I'd guess there isn't an infection.
I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that I'm not a nutjob for being worried, but that it is okay that I don't take her in today.
Re: moms-wwyd?
Usually with Dom, when I can hear the congestion in his chest when he breathes, (kinda sounds like darth vader ... but not so dramatic) and I have taken him in to the pedi they just tell you to do the typical things, and have given us an inhaler to use to help open up his airway, and make him cough that stuff up. The things that I have done for him when he's congested are:
Warm Mist Humidifier
Vicks baby rub on his chest before bed
Johnsons vapor bath
elevate the head of his mattress so that its at a slight incline
and definitely keep on top of suctioning out his boogies. If she is running a temp, let it spike so you know for sure like Pam said, and then I might take her in to be seen, because with congestion, can come ear infections...
good luck. Its no fun when little ones are sick. She should be on the upswing of this cold by 13-14 days, so if she's not any better tomorrow, I probably would take her in.
Thanks girls. i feel better. I can totally hear it in her chest. The thing that makes me concerned it that i don't get much of anything when i suction her nose (even with saline drops). I think I have some of the Baby Vicks so I may try that. I will let the fever spike if she feels warm, that is a good idea. I'm usually so concerned with helping her feel better that I didn't think to let it spike.
Watch, I'll bring her in tomorrow (I have a feeling she won't be any better) and she will be feeling better while there and start acting sick as soon as we leave-ALWAYS happens
Babies should not get sick
This.
I am no help. If you are concerned bring her in. We brought Allie in once 3 times in one week and on the 3rd time she was given meds because she had an infection. Then a few weeks after, her cough was bad so we brought her in and they gave us stff. Then it wasn't any better after a week or so later so we brought her back in again and it was indeed worst.
I say bring her in. If I am worried I take her in. I will relax next winter when she is older but for now I bring her in! I am crazy though!!
That's what I am worried about. She is happier today, but still all congested. I'll see how the night goes and probably call again tomorrow.
Thanks everyone!` `````````` q
