would you please refresh my memory.... what do you do? You work a TON of hours!
Re: **Kara**
haha. unfortunately I don't even have a cool job or title for all the hours I work!
My title is Sr Business Process Analyst
In more words, this is what I do:
A little over a year ago we deployed a new web-based data management system to a good portion of our company (I work for a large US Defense contractor). I started on this team about 8 months prior to deployment as a business process tester to make sure the software was fitting the business needs.
Ever since deployment (Feb 2010), I've been one of the lead analysts who are in charge of troubleshooting and investigating issues that arise in the software. The bad part of my job is dealing with the end users who cry and complain about everything, but since they are the ones who unearth a lot of the issues, I have to put up with it
We're also in the midst of deploying to more business units so it's a revolving door of dealing with testing, deployments, and issues.
Luckily, I really love (most of) my coworkers and have made some great friends working with this team - so while I average about 55 hours a week right now (which includes nights and weekends a lot of the time), I'm surviving! Getting paid overtime doesn't hurt either!
Interesting. I didn't realize all of that.
I'm glad to hear you like it. You better for working that much!

Oh my! I'd be totally over that, too. Are you looking for something else?
Kara - Are you just in a busy season? It's definitely good that you like your job since you are working such long hours. I hope it isn't permanent, though. I know I certainly wouldn't be able to handle that.

I'm not looking. Basically for my education and experience I'd have to take a huge pay cut and lose what I have here. There aren't many 32 year old CFO's at least around here, so I'd have to go back down the ladder so to speak.
I may at some point leave, but for now I'm going to put an ad out for an assistant and hopefully with that I can get back to working normal hours. I also don't hate the actual work and I like that my boss lives in NYC so there isn't anyone breathing down my neck.

Um..kind of? These hours have been going on semi-regularly for the last year. sometimes I get a few weeks of more normal hours. It is extra-busy right now and will be until summer probably.
