I posted this on the Nest Book Club too, but I thought I'd share it here.
Y'all know I work in a Writing Center. Well, we decided to do our own version of March Madness, but as a "Battle of the Authors." We have four regions: Male Contemporary, Male Classic, Female Contemporary, and Female Classic.
Today on campus or on Facebook (and if you're my FB friend and "like" the center, you can play in our official version too!) we're voting to go from the 32 down to the Sweet Sixteen. Tomorrow the votes will be from the Sweet Sixteen to the Elite Eight. Then we take a break for Spring Break and come back to do the Final Four and the Championship.
Here's the brackets/challenges for today:
MALE CONTEMPORARY:
Game #1: Stephen King vs. Nick Hornby
Game #2: Dan Brown vs. Neil Gaiman
Game #3: John Grisham vs. James Patterson
Game #4: Sherman Alexie vs. Gabriel Garcia Marquez
MALE CLASSIC:
Game #5: JRR Tolkien vs. Louis L'Amour
Game #6: Mark Twain vs. Fydor Dostoevsky
Game #7: Charles Dickens vs. Earnest Hemingway
Game #8: William Faulkner vs. John Steinbeck
FEMALE CONTEMPORARY:
Game #9: JK Rowling vs. Jodi Picoult
Game #10: Toni Morrison vs. Sophie Kinsella
Game #11: Barbara Kingsolver vs. Stephenie Meyer
Game #12: Sandra Cisneros vs. Joyce Carol Oates
FEMALE CLASSIC:
Game #13: Virgina Woolf vs. Louisa May Alcott
Game #14: Jane Austen vs. Mary Shelley
Game #15: Zora Neale Hurston vs. Kate Chopin
Game #16: Emily Bronte vs. Charlotte Bronte
I think the Book Club board is going to play their own version. You can all vote here if you want, or there, or whatever. It's interesting to see how different populations vote/who will be victorious...

I went and did an official vote, so vouch for me if people wonder WTF I am! :-)
My answers:
King, Brown, Grisham, Marquez, Tolkien, Twain, Dickens, Faulkner, Rowling, Morrison, Meyer, Cisneros, Alcott, Austin, Hurston, Charlotte Bronte
Honestly, when it comes to the contemporary authors, I'm not nearly as well versed because that's not my preferred genre. BUT I will fight fiercely for the classics!
