I know I am not alone and there are others who are having a hard time finding jobs out there so I guess this is just a vent.
Since November (and more seriously since January) I have been looking very hard at jobs in biotech/pharm industry. I've implemented all the advice given to me here and from others and now I am not really sure what else I can do so I feel sort of defeated and starting to think there is something wrong with me or my resume and my optimistic attitude is slowly fading.
In case anyone interested I have about 10 years of experience in academic research (some teaching college level classes also). My grant funding ended so my job came to an end and I've known this since October so I started my search early on.
Things I have done:
1. Had a professional HR manager (who goes through thousands of resumes in science related jobs) proof read my resume. Attended resume writing seminars and webinars to see if I can improve my resume even more.
2. I spend a long time tailoring my cover letter and resume to each job I am applying, making sure the big words are used if applicable.
3. Got on linked in around october time frame, built a detailed profile, and got recommendations on there. Joined groups, started getting involved in conversations/threads.
4. Enrolled in an evening certificate program at a close by university in regulatory affairs for life sciences.
5. Tried informational interviews with guest speakers (from industries) that come to my RA classes.
6. A friend of a friend is a recruiter (although not in science specifically), she has a copy of my resume and I am told she is sharing it with her recruiter friends.
7. Applied for a few internship at device/drug companies around me. 2 of them replied to my follow-up email that seemed hopeful but then nothing came out of it. I followed up 3 weeks later and never heard back.
8. Posted my resume on medzilla.
I really don't know what else I can do that I haven't done already. I have a supportive DH who has been very positive and understanding. Days and months are going by and I haven?t gotten a single interview so I am starting to think something is wrong with me or my resume.
Thanks for reading and sorry for the long vent.

I agree with PP - formal recruiting agencies are very helpful. I used one and had multiple interview opportunities within a couple of days. I had a job offer within a week and this was after a couple of months of searching on my own. I'm not in your line of work by any means, but I definitely encourage you to use one of the companies she suggested.
Good luck!
