Or i just shouldn't cook rice. Sunday night I burnt rice because I forgot to turn down the heat. Today I put the water in, turned on the stove, then took the garbage out. I can back and it smells like something is burning. My kitchen is covered in ashes. I think something was on the burner, burnt, then exploded. Good thing it wasn't a full on fire, I'm never stepping out while cooking again!
Re: I suck at cooking!
That is so scary! Glad you and the kitties are okay!
I agree though that rice is so freaking hard to get right, even when not burning down your kitchen. The only rice I can make it that boil and a bag stuff (...and then I dump canned Blue Runner beans over it...are you freaking out NOLA?? ha!)
Buy a rice cooker. It will change your life.
Splurge and buy a nice one though, the cheapies suck.
I only buy "parboiled" rice. So easy to cook, and never comes out gummy or sticky. Bring water to boil, add rice, stir, bring to boil again, lower to medium heat, cover, and don't touch it until all the water is gone. Easy peasy.
