Sorry for all the trip questions - but I have another one :)

My older sister wants to go on a weekend getaway somewhere.  She doesn't care where as long as it's warm there.  She wants to leave from GR.

We are leaving on a Thursday evening/Friday morning and returning on Sunday night.  Probably just a 2 night trip.

Where would you go?

Re: Sorry for all the trip questions - but I have another one :)

  • I'm guessing you'll travel by air?

FT Meyer's Beach FL? ButI know people down there.

    Myrtle Beach?

Ft Myer's is a definite no (H wouldn't let me go - long story).  Myrtle Beach is actually what I was leaning towards!

  • Well, I just went to Savannah/Tybee for a weekend it was great!  We were there for three nights.  It was in the 70s every day.  So nice!

However, for only two nights, I would want to go somewhere that I can get a direct flight from GR.  Somewhere in Florida, Myrtle Beach, Vegas, Phoenix...

Did you find a good deal?  What website did you book on?

Ah, no.  It's actually pretty crazy expensive to fly into Savannah because it's a really small airport.  And most hotels in the Historic District in Savannah are pretty pricey too.

No idea about hotel costs on Tybee Island, though.  They may be more affordable.

I booked a package through Expedia.

FWIW, I did get a great deal on a car rental through Hertz!  Big Smile

  • Do you get Travelzoo emails?  I know you said Ft. Myers isn't an option, but here's a fare sale on Tampa and Orlando too.

  • If you are leaving from GR, I would personally check Allegiant and see where the have the cheapest prices and go there (probably Myrtle beach or Orlando/Sanford). MB might not be warm enough for the beach, btw. It will definitely be warmer than here, but we went in October it got a bit chilly at nights and definitely wasn't warm enough for me tiger in the water.
  • DC?  AirTran flies direct to Baltimore (and pretty cheaply, usually), and you can take the train from the airport to DC.  It's probably not going to be really warm there, but it's definitely warmer than here.
  • Lol, autocorrect. I meant not warm enough "to get" in the water, not tiger. :)
  • DC is fun. We have family there, so we have gone at least once a year for the last couple years. Not sure we are going this year. We have gone at the end of April, when Cooley lets out for the semester, last year it was unbearably hot. The year before it was cooler.

I love Charleston, SC. But I haven't been there in years. And I drove, I never flew.

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is fun too. But again we drove.

I am probably no help at all, sorry.
