Re: s/o- Make me jealous & engagements- How he met your mother
I met my husband's father by going to a restaurant for dinner. It went well although I was nervous as hell. Overall his father and stepmother seemed to like me and gave my husband a thumbs up later.
My husband's mother was absolute hell to meet! She spent a hour telling me I was too good for her son and tried to get me to leave him. Thankfully I stood up for myself and went against her advice. Now she likes me. We think maybe it was a test. If so, what a horrible test.
My husband did not meet my parents as I do not have a relationship with either parent. He did however meet my brother which was scary for him. My brother did tell him while I was in the restroom at the restaurant we were at that if he did anything to hurt me he would show him his collection of rifles. By the second or third time my husband met my brother he had seem my brother's collection of rifles.
So those are my stories...now share yours!
I met DH's mother at his company's annual holiday party (they both work for a company that has 12,000 employees in San Diego), at a swanky downtown hotel. I was in line to see the psychic (who explained that that we'd been through many hard times, ups and downs together - ironic in that we'd been dating for 6 weeks), and he ran into his mother on his way back from the bar with our drinks. She had no idea he was dating anyone, and was like "oh, you're my son's date?" Umm, no. I'm his girlfriend.
DH came to dinner at my parent's house, and stepped on my dog's foot while making small-talk in the kitchen and DH freaked out... He was absolutely sure my parents would hate him for it and it was all he could talk about when we got home. I had barely noticed it (I figure if the dog is lays down right behind someone's feet standing in the kitchen this *will* happen), and neither did my parents. DH still gets flustered thinking about it... LOL...
My mom worked at the same agency I did, so when Mike started there he met "LaShelle" in Client Services.. which later became really important as she is now his MIL lol
He met my dad at my parents house one random night before he took me to dinner. It was no big deal, my dad is 6'2, 270lbs, inked up.. he just showed him his full gun cabinet and the animals on the wall and said, nice to meet you, take care of my daughter lol
I met his parents at a holiday dinner at his parents friends house. We pulled up to the friends house and his parents were waiting in the driveway so when I got out of the care I was introduced to them. It was weird because it wasn't awkward at all, we really just liked.
Both of us actually really, really like our in-laws. Very lucky.
I met DH's mom and step-dad, sister, grandparents, and his aunts, uncles and cousins (the whole fam-damly) on his grandparents 50th anniversary. We went to his grandparents farm where they were doing family pictures and then we left there and went on a dinner cruise on the Mississippi. We had been dating for about 6 or so weeks and they didn't know how serious we were so they didn't have me in the pictures, and then about 6 weeks later we were engaged and his grandma was so mad at him for not telling them that we were serious. Him mom was not very receptive to me but everyone else was great. I had met his brother and SIL before but no one else.
I met his dad and step-mom, sometime, we are both having a hard time remembering. I think he tortured me again by making me meet the whole family at the same time. We had to go to the nursing home to visit his great grandma for pictures (again), with the whole family. That one was TORTURE!! Becuause, a. I hate nursing homes, like loathe them, yuck, b. his dad's side of the family isn't incredibly nice (esp his grandma (dad's mom)) and c. it was totally awkward meeting all of these people when we were already engaged.
He thinks that he met my parents one night when he came to pick me up but I think that he met them ( for sure my mom) at our county fair. Mom and I were camping the week of the fair and I met Lance there every night and the first night we (mom and I) were very intoxicated and her and Lance hit it off wonderfully. That was probably one of the best nights I have had in a long time!
Haha Kear, this cracks me up. Yay Jersey dads! :-P
I met Clinton's mom, dad, grandma, aunt, uncle, cousin, and three brothers all at the same time. It was in college & it was TERRIFYING. I went to college in New York (where his whole family is from), but I grew up in Alabama. I was a shy, quiet little southern girl & they were this huge, LOUD, super intimidating family. I was at his apartment the day they came out to visit & they showed up like an hour early early. I literally stepped out of the shower & heard voices in the living room. FML right? At least I had brought my clothes in there with me. But I met everyone with wet hair & no makeup on. Meh. I still feel all frazzled just thinking about it. The later that day, the wind blew my skirt up & his brother saw my butt. No lie. That's how I met my in-laws. Sweet right? Luckily they were all super nice & made me feel totally welcome. Unfortunately that's the only time I got to meet David, his dad. He passed away four months later.
Clinton was REALLY nervous to meet my parents, but he shouldn't have been. They were going to love him & I knew it. After he moved down to Kentucky for grad school, he came down to Alabama to visit me for a long weekend & meet my family. He brought a big bouquet of flowers for my mom & fancy beer for my dad (which I thought was cute). My parents are easy anyway. It's my sisters you have to look out for. My older sister is a PITA & has never liked ANYONE my younger sister or I have dated. But (shock!) she loved Clinton. She thinks he's just so funny. To me, the big test was my niece. She was 15 months old at the time & had a BIG case of stranger anxiety. She pretty much didn't like anyone not in the family to talk to her. She burst into tears when she saw the guy my younger sister was dating. So I didn't have my hopes up. But we went to my older sister's for dinner & Addy grabbed his hand, walked him into her room, and started showing him her toys. I was so happy I almost cried. Y'all know how madly in love with my niece I am, and I LOVED that she let him be her friend. Now she's three & she still loves her "Uncle Kitten."
ten-tenners' may siggy: me & mama on my wedding day
What's LittleMissNewlywed Cooking?
So I decided to go see my parents for my mom's birthday just over 3 months after we started dating. I didn't really want to leave him for the weekend so I convinced him to come with me. And convinced my parents to let some guy I was dating stay at their house. He got to meet my parents that way and spend the rest of the weekend sleeping in the room next to theirs while I was to stay upstairs in my room. lol. He met both parents, my brother, my uncle, and cousin.
I don't really remember much of the trip though. Except he met some friends of mine from high school- we went out drinking and I got wayy to drunk he stopped 8 rounds before me and impressed the hell out of my dad-although he still won't admit it. haha.
As for his parents. His mom flew out in Oct 2009- to visit him. I came home from work and she was in my living room. I knew she was coming- but I thought they would be at his place or her hotel. But she didn't like her hotel so she spent the entire trip at my place. Strange Encounter. She spent most of the time telling me I was amazing and she loved me and he loved me. And then telling me I need to loose weight and learn to eat meat and smoke pot. Like I said strange encounter.
I didn't meet his dad until two days before the wedding when they flew in. We gave them directions to the hotel but they still couldn't find it (straight shot in a small town. lol.). So we spent 25 mins on the phone with them trying to tell them which way to go. But with 4 adults in the car all having their own opinion on where to go it didn't work out so well. Finally we told them to pull over and stop driving and we drove to them. When we got out of the car, the most adorable old man got out of the car ran over to me hugged and kissed me. It was fast friends ever since. Then Brandon went in the car with him and his aunt and uncle and his mom came with me and we escourted them to the hotel lol.
We get along very well with the inlaws. My dad can be a pain to Brandon sometimes but since we have married he isn't bad anymore. His mom gets on both our cases alot. I know she is just being a mother and truely is worried about us.. but we are adults and it sorta drives us batty. lol.
I had meet his parents at the restaurant I was working at when I he came in the them, but the it was mothers day, when I meet them full one just me and them not me + them + 14 other tables! I feel in love with them over dinner ! and Mikell! the was he was his mother + the relationship he has with both his parents me me kinds sad that i never had that with mine.
it was about a year before Mikell met my dad and step mom,( we didn't have the best of relationships after my mom passes) To be honest I think he's the son my dad dreamed about having, Mike will help him with almost anything he calls and asks for help with. My dad loved him from day one! they jokes about the same things and were able to joke about the same things. to this day my dad considers Mike the son he never had which i think hurts my brother cause he is the only son my dad ever had yet hes never there for my dad.
We were just hanging out at Ken's house one afternoon when his parents decided to stop over. Ken and his stepdad went down to the basement to look at something real quick (which was the first time I realized his perception of time was WAY off) and left me alone with his mom in the family room for like 45 minutes. It was incredibly awkward.
Ken works at a minor league baseball stadium where my dad has season tickets, so he met my dad on opening day one season (we had been dating about 4 months by that point) and my mom at a game a few weeks later. I wasn't there to be a buffer when he met my mom, so it was probably super awkward for him.
Copy and paste from the other thread:The friday after we started dating is my sister's birthday....our family gets together and goes out for dinner every year. So I brought it up and said that I'd see him when i got back saturday (we had spent every day together since we kissed and after we made it official forget it) and he goes....well....can i come? I had plans to stay at my parents and then drive back in the morning...how AWKWARD was the convo "so um...mom? im dating this boy....for a week.....aaaaand he wants to come to kerrie's birthday....aaaaand stay the night at your house" she and my sister said sure and lo and behold...there is jeremy....sitting at a table...one week in.....eating dinner, meeting my WHOLE FAMILY, AND my sisters inlaws....
My parents card to him on the wedding read as follows "we always knew, even at the first night at joes, that you'd be a part of our family forever" AWWWWWWW
I met my in laws in shifts. Jeremy's mother called and said she wanted to go to dinner....with us....both of us...and his sister, and her boyfriend.....because bruce was away on buisness....so we go....and i fiddled with my wine, and my dinner, and it was good....nervewracking but good...i had never met a boyfriends parents.....so it was crazy. I forget where I met bruce....it was closer to christmas I think, at the house......and THEN christmas happened.....and i met lucy's 6 siblings, their kids, her father, and the whole gaggle......
I love my whole new family (even though some of them drive me crazy! LOL) Jeremy and my parents get along really well...my dad takes him under his wing and they go do stuff together tis great
Getting fit for IVF!
He met my mom and dad about a month after we started dating. My mom had a booth in a craft show and I made him go with me.
I met his mother the day we moved in together. She scared me and so I called my mom and made her come over. lmao Let's just say that she was NOT what I was expecting.
And I didn't meet his dad for a few more months after that. I can't really remember which time was the first time I met him.
Missing our little turkey.
Estimated Due Date 11/13/12 | Natural Miscarriage 4/17/12
We met each other's parents before we started dating, when we were just friends.
Funny thing though... Steve's dad could not remember my name for like the first 10 times I met him. He remembered me, but not my name.
Steve had met my mom a few times, and one day I was talking to her and said something about him and she said she didn't know who he was. I told her she had met him a few times, told her when, and described him to her and she was still drawing a blank. Finally, I was like "jeez mom, he is the ONLY Asian one!" lol
Steve met my whole extended family about 1 month after we started dating, at Thanksgiving dinner. I was really sick, so after we ate I laid down for a nap and he was on his own with my family
but he did really well, and everyone was really impressed with how nice he was and how well he took care of me. (ALL the other guys I dated before Steve were rude A-holes)
I never met his mom, because she passed away before I met Steve.
I will be meeting all of his dad's family for the first time at the end of the month, at his grandfather's funeral.
I still lived at home with my parents, so when we came home for me to drop off my truck (we met up at the movie theater), he came in and met my parents. Mom looked at me and goes "You just brought Christ into my house!" No kidding - Zach had long hair at the time, and looked exactly like Jesus.
That photo was taken the weekend he took me to meet his parents in S. IL. We were at a concert under the St. Louis arch. I love his dad, his sister is ok, but I should've known his mom was warped since she calls her own husband by his full name when he's "in trouble."
Chris actually met my dad months before we met. My parents live next door to one of Chris' good friends (Frank), and Chris was there for a shower of some sort. After the shower, Frank and the guys were trying to figure out how big of a TV their entertainment center would hold (I'm sure his wife was thrilled!). For whatever reason, my dad ended up over there to help measure, and met Chris then.
My mom and I met Chris on the same day - the night before the hurricane came through. Again, at Frank's house...this time on his driveway. We all played poker that night.
Chris' parents both passed away when he was younger so I never got to meet them. After his dad passed away when he was 16, his sister took over raising him the rest of the way. I did meet his sister and her family (and much of his extended family) at our first Thanksgiving together at a family celebration.
Fortunately, he loves my parents and I love his family. So life is good for us!
Megan & Chris
We didn?t have a big meeting for either side of our families. He met my Mom one day when I was hanging out with him and a friend of his, and needed to grab something from my Mom?s, so I took them with me. We had just casually started dating at the time, so I said, ?Mom this is Jason, Jason this is my Mom? grabbed what I needed and that was pretty much it. It was the same way with my Dad. My Dad is certainly not the stereotypical protective father; he never cared at all who I dated. Jason and my Mom have had a hard time learning to get along; they are just too different and both think they are right all the time. They get along much better now than they used to, but I still try to not let them be together for more than a short period of time; it just stresses me out. My Dad and Jason get along great. My Dad is an old hippie guitar teacher so he loves that Jason is strong and can do just about anything around the house or lift just about anything my Dad needs help with. I think he loves that Jason is a typical ?manly man? and he knows he?ll always be able to keep me safe/protect me.
I met all of Jason?s family casually at separate times. Nothing really stands out except the first time I met his Dad; we were all drinking and later he told Jason, ?I think you?ve found yourself a keeper, any girl that can drink me under the table is one heck of a woman.? Jason was raised more so by his grandparents (he lived with them from birth until 2 and then from 8 until he moved out on his own). They are wonderful people who I love so much and they adore me. His grandmom often calls to talk to me, then when I ask if she wants to talk to Jason she says, ?No, that?s alright, maybe another time? lol. His Mom is a total nut job, but we get along pretty good since I know she?s crazy and know how to deal with her. His Dad is a jerk and treats Jason like crap, but lately it?s been better so we?ll see; he lives in FL so it doesn?t really matter if we get along or not, we only see him maybe twice a year.
Chris' family lives in Toronto, which is about 4.5 hours away from us by car. We were dating about 2 months when his brother, sister-in-law and kids came to Ottawa for a weekend. I was really nervous about meeting them, but they loved me.
He took me to his parents in Toronto for Thanksgiving (about 4 months into the relationship) to meet his parents. I was so nervous that I made him stop at a Tim Hortons about 5 minutes from his parents so I could fix my hair and make-up and re-apply my deodorant. We still laugh every time we drive by it.
My parents live half way across the country, so they flew out about 2 weeks after that to meet him (my mom couldn't handle me meeting his parents and him not meeting mine
).
He met my sister and brother at my sister's wedding about a year after we started dating. Again, they are on the other side of the country, so there wasn't a chance prior to that.
We're both pretty lucky, everyone gets along really well.

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermI'm going to preface this with "Don't laugh".
I introduced DH to my family, my entire family, the day after we met, and only a few hours after our first date. We had made plans to go shopping that morning for Christmas presents and by the end of the day, I ended up inviting him to the family Christmas party my mom was hosting at our house (I was originally only home for the holidays but ended up moving back from NYC permanently). He met literally everyone (except one of my sisters who had moved to Oregon), even my second and third cousins. My dad thought Nick was a skin-head when he met him, because of his lack of hair (he hadn't lost his eyebrows to the chemo yet and just looked like he was in the military or had shaved his head, plus he wears a lot of punk clothes). My oldest sister and best friend evidently spent the whole night gabbing about how he must be pretty significant for me to have brought him. I just used the excuse that if he couldn't handle the craziness of my family, it's better to run him off before either of us gets too attached. Clue: he didn't run.
I met his brothers (and a couple of his cousins) a few weeks later on New Year's Eve. His youngest brother and I hit it off but his other brother "M" (DH is the oldest) I found really annoying. He spent the whole night interrogating me across a table of 9 people and then got smashed and decided to streak around the apartment complex (so unfortunately I have seen his brother butt naked...not the mental image I ever wanted
Then he went back to his parents and told them I was going to ruin DH's life. Ugh! Luckily, when I met DH's parents a few weeks later, they had ignored M as being M. His parents and I get along really well. I adore his mom so much.
This is a picture of us the first time I met his grandparents (maybe 4 months after we started dating?). They were in town from his dad's graduation from seminary.
DH's father passed away in '96, and his mom had a stoke before we started dating (she's in a wheelchair, she has coherent thoughts and can understand everything going on, she just can't speak the words).
I "officially" met his sister, her family & his mom on Christmas a few months after we "came out." It was fine, but awkward...I'm awkward in general, though.
And I don't remember how DH finally met my mom, but I think DH met my dad for my birthday dinner.
I suck lol.
lol "came out" cracks me up. not sure why.
Also- I don't remember alot of the details about him meeting my parents. It is their big moment not ours anyway right. haha.
