Thank you.
Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.
Who here has one? I have questions.
How often do they come?
What do they all do for you?
Is it expensive? You don't have to say exactly how much if you don't want, I just want to know how much is "too much".
I'm asking because A: I don't have time to clean my own house. I get the basics done, but I'm lacking in the deep cleaning department... and B: I really hate cleaning!

Re: Cleaning Services

My mom cleans houses, but she's freelance. My grandmother did before her.
She charges between 15-20 dollars an hour, and usually cleans 3 or 4 hours either once or twice a month.
She does pretty much anything that the people want her to, save some things like cleaning up after the dogs when they make messes, laundry, other personal things like that. She does vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, bathrooms, kitchens, mopping, etc.
Based on things I've heard about cleaning services in our area, lots of people have switched from a company like merry maids to someone like my mother. My mom gets all her houses from referrals. So basically, if possible, see if anyone you know/work with/ hang out with has a specific person that they use as opposed to a cleaning service company.

Random question: Do they only do the basic cleaning stuff or if you have a disaster of a closet, will they organize it?
Also, for those with dogs, how did you get your dogs to accept that a "random" person was going to come into the house when you are not there?

My parents dog HATES the cleaning ladies. They usually bring him over our house to hang out.
They tried introducing him to them, had them come over a few times to meet him and no dice.

I have never had her do this but I am sure she would, she would probably just need to stay longer. As far as the dogs, I am lucky and H brings them to work with him everyday so I really don't have to worry about them.

We used to have one. It was about $150 every other week (or every time they came out). They did the floors, dusting, bathrooms, kitchen. Once we stopped using them and I started doing everything myself, I realized they weren't doing such a great job with everything. My windows were so dirty. Ew.
They did have extra services they would do for an additional cost like baseboards or whatever.
We might have to start using someone again when I get too huge and/or when the baby is here. We'll see how it goes, but I really prefer cleaning my own house!
We didn't have Lola when we used the cleaners before, so I'm not sure how that would work out now...

That's what I really want anyway! I'm not looking for someone to come everyweek. Just to come maybe once a month and do all the crap that I hate.. lol
I've never dusted my baseboards! People do this? I've never washed my walls either (unless you can count using one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers to remove a mark). I rarely dust unless I see a visible coating on a shelf or a table or something. All I've ever done are the basics: vacuum, clean toilets, mirrors, countertops/sinks, and sweep up all the kitty litter that finds its way onto our wood floors. I only clean the glass on the sliding doors if I notice handprints/nose prints from pets. H and I don't change our sheets enough either, I'm sure. So as far as a "deep clean" my house is probably totally filthy! I just make sure it looks presentable when company comes over and have never given a thought to cleaning "deeper" than that. Yikes.
