Re: what offends you?
:Blog:
Not a whole lot, but I really hate it when people make fun of other people for their weight. No matter if it's because they are large or small.
I also take offense to people who make jokes of others being "retarded" or being mean to people with any disability IRL. I went to a middle school and high school that offered a wonderful program for special needs kids and it was awful how students and even some teachers would treat these kids.
feminists.
as a woman, i think they give other women a bad name and actually assist in discrimination against women. im not saying women are treated equally in all situations but saying, "i'm a WOMAN so i deserve more than you!" is just the same to me as if one religion believes they are better than another, or one race superior to another.
i dont think im owed anything because im a woman and it really annoys me when people think they are owed something because of their race, religion, or sex. and im offended when people/feminists think that i should feel differently about this subject because i am a woman.
Homophobes. And the belief that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. I'll stop there before I go on a tirade...

I only get offended with personal attacks and uneducated/one-sided comments/trains of thought. I hate it when someone says that something "is a fact" when there really is no clear cut evidence that it is and only cites the referances they know support them vs. those that also support the contrary.
3 examples:
1) thewomen who believe that "their way" is the only corrrect way to raise (esp feed...FF vs BF) a child and if someone doesn't do the same, they are a "bad mother".
2) Politics -those who will only associate with people who are of the same political affiliation as them
3) Religion-those who think that their religion is superior to all others and tries to push it on them

oh and also when people look at education as a deciding factor for intelligence.
people who have masters degrees or doctorates can be less intelligent than someone who never even graduated high school. and just because you didnt attend or finish college doesnt mean you lack intelligence.
also, a lot of people with wonderful educations lack life experience and social skills, which to me are just as important as intelligence.
Honestly, not much. There are lots of things that annoy me or make me angry, but there is very little that personally offends me. I rarely see things as a personal attack. I have pet peeves, sure. Like Leslie mentioned, people using the word "retarded" or "gay" to describe something stupid, I hate that. But I'm also not offended by it. I think it's ignorant and makes someone look ignorant, but it doesn't offend me.
I know this is getting into weird semantics again, but I think it's an important distinction. Also hope it illustrates my point about people being "offended" by too many things.
A few things that do offend me - 1. disrespect. You don't have to like me (or anyone else) but everyone is entitled to basic respect as human beings. So help me if you don't show me even basic respect.
2. insulting my intelligence. Like Stees said, education =/= intelligence, however, I have both education and a great deal of street smarts, common sense, and logic. You treat me like I'm an idiot and I will unleash on you.
Irrational people.
"I feel this way" is not really a good argument for your stupid prejudices. Get over yourself and try to see the world for what it is and not through your lens.
People who misuse words.
You sound stupid. No, really. I can't handle it. If you ever do it in real life I will correct you.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I consider myself a pretty laidback person, but I get my panties in a twist from time to time.
I'm in complete agreement with Stees and Neuner. Don't insult my intelligence.
Example & Vent:
There's one person @ work who is newish and she is a complete elitist. She is so condescending to me. Just b/c I am an EA and don't make 6-figures, does not mean that I am uneducated. I have my degree, speak 3 languages and I've travelled most of the world. I chose this position b/c I'm damb good at it. I'm confident enough in myself that I don't need to be the center of attention. I'm satisfied that my successes happen b/c of what I do in the background. Oh and the reason you don't have a BF/H has nothing to do with men "being intimidated by" you. You have no social grace or fashion sense. {Ahhh. There. That felt good.}
Arrogance.
When people use "retarded" to describe everything (my co-worker does this).
When people judge you based on your family or how much money you make. This one really irks me because it happens to me all the time. I'm constantly judged based on my father and his past and people look down on me for it. I find it extremely offensive and irritating.
I am offended by the song Mambo #5 because it objectifies women!
Offended offended offended!

oooh, good one. Totally agree.
Close-mindedness
Valuing pride over respect
People who fail to see that they are guilty of exactly what they are criticizing others for.
| cute shoes make me happy |
This basically sums up how i feel.
And disrespect, like nooner (?) said, especially based on irrelevant personality traits like skin color and "gender roles".
Close mindedness
Ignorance
Going along with that, an unwillingness to admit that you're wrong (ignorant) and change your viewpoint/opinion
People who know they're wrong and persist in saying they're right
People who know something is offensive/wrong, etc but continue anyway
Can you clarify this point? Are you saying people that change their viewpoint/opinion offend you?
No, just the opposite. But, I can see how I wrote that weird.
It annoys me when people DON'T change their minds when they know they've been proven wrong.
Gotcha. However, there is no right or wrong answer to a viewpoint/opinion. It's what you believe to be, isn't it?
Very true.
I guess I was thinking/referring to what happened the other day (sex versus gender). There is a right or wrong answer to that but most people would consider their answer to be a viewpoint/opinion.
There's probably a better word than viewpoint/opinion to be used here, I just don't have it right now.
I didn't pay attention to any of that stuff...I see what you're saying, though.
