new to area-two topics for dicsussion

One: family watchdog- have you check out your town? Coming from a town in MN with no sexual predators, I'm having a hard time living in a town with so many. Any advice from those of you with kids?

Also, Lutheran churches around the area you love? I'd venture as far as Saratoga. There is one here in Glens Falls, and also South Glens Falls. I am looking for a bigger congragation...ideas?

 Thanks for your input!

  • Hello and welcome. While registered sexual offenders are scary...the unregistered, uncaught ones are the worst and they are everywhere in the country. Do the best you can in picking a place that you feel safe and comfortable with your family. Typically living by a school gives a wide berth that registered sex offenders can not live. In most towns there are only a few random places they can live  because schools are all over the town. In nisky we have I believe 6 public school and a bunch of smaller Montessori and day cares so I imagine it would be difficult for many to live around here with so many schools and then being off limits.

I'm not Lutheran so I have no church help. Where are you living?

  • Welcome!

I grew up in the area and now live in the DC area. I agree with the PP who said the number who are registered in NY is high but the unregistered ones elsewhere scare me more. Growing up there wasn't a concern and people I know with families there now aren't either. It's the basic common sense of knowing where your kids are, etc.

For a larger congregation of any church, I'd have to suggest going south. (Clifton Park, Saratoga, etc). There just aren't many people in the area for a big congregation.
