So I called the board member last night and I got some serious dirt.
Turns out, my boss' behavior almost got her fired before. A board president a few years back decided that the way she treats both board and staff was unacceptable that he tried very hard to get rid of her. She was given notice and made to go to classes on how to deal with people.
Apparently, there is also something in her file that requires her to check in with her employees and see how they are doing periodically in regards to the way she manages and she hasn't been doing it so this woman said this is the way we will approach it. She will ask the board president to check in and see if she's been doing that and tell her she needs to, that gives me the opportunity to tell her how I feel in a setting that isn't set off with her yelling at me. They are also going to tell her they will be checking in with me too, so she can't get out of it. She said if she doesn't improve after she talks to me, then even more steps will be taken.
I feel better about it now, especially as she also asked me if my boss' job is something I'd be interested in doing one day. She said that we can seriously make it a point to train me to her job (with her knowing of course) so when she retires I can step in and take over. This makes me reconsider the whole quitting thing as this is something I'd like to do one day, so perhaps I can talk to my boss about reducing my hours for a few years. We'll see.
I'll let you know how it goes when she approaches me! Thanks for your support.
Re: Work update
Sounds like this conversation went really well! And it sounds like this is a good approach to things. Did this board member say how frequently they'd be checking in with you to see how things are going? Or how much time they'll give your boss to show that she's improving (because we all know that she changes her behavior for a week or two, and then goes straight back to being Queen ***)? I really hope that these "check ins" become a permanent thing!
(And how cool would that be for you to be able to take your boss's place someday?!)

Ditto all of this!
I dont see why they would want to keep her around though if they have tried to get rid of her before for the same stuff...
It would be awesome if they would give you her job! GL with everything, and keep us posted
She's the only one passionate enough to keep the organization running. The board knows if they got rid of her, there's no one right now who would take over.
What about you?
Im sure it's a lot of hours though.
