FVCK!! I am steaming pissed/irritated/annoyed right now and I know I can vent here and people will understand more than on facebook/twitter.
I've taken Jenson (our new rescue dog) on short walks alone, and I (obviously) walk Chloe. Well, today I decided to walk them both at the same time since it's nice out, and I wanted to do it during the 'dinner hour' because I never see anyone walk our quiet neighborhood during the dinner hour.
I had two collars (flat collars, not prong/training collars) on Jenson with his leash hooked to both of them. I had Chloe on her flat collar. I had them in complete control and was feeling awesome about our pace, how they were walking together, etc.
Then - some woman (that I've never seen before) and her dog - not sure what kind of dog, sorta Golden Retriever shaped/hair type, but with black hair - decided that they wanted to RUN to catch up with us. From behind. I could hear her coming from her footsteps on the pavement and her dog's jingling collar. I tried to increase our pace so we could get around the corner, but she just kept coming. I wasn't going to try and run with both dogs for many reasons - I didn't want to risk hurting myself or the dogs if we weren't all going in the same direction, and I didn't want them to feel fear or a sudden change.
So - at some point she lets go of her dog's leash!!! Her dog jumps up on my back, my dogs go NUTS - growling, barking, pulling on their leashes, jumping up at this dog. I am doing everything in my power to hold my dogs (I now have their leashes with about a 6 inch lead and am holding for life) and use my leg/foot to keep her dog at bay. She runs up, half-assed restrains her dog and says "Are your pitbulls vicious!? Cause I saw some in California that had blue eyes, and the blue eyed ones are vicious."
FVCK!!! I blew it. I flipped the fvck out at her, screaming the obvious reasons - don't run up on someone and their dogs that you don't know, don't let your dog out of your control, don't let your dog jump on me, get the away from me and my dogs - which are BOXERS and aren't vicious except they have full reason to be after what the fvck you just did!!!
She acted disgusted, said "wow, lighten up lady" and then ran off with her dog.
I'm sorry - I'm so frustrated/emotional/exhausted so this is one long, messy rant. I want to cry right now. I was only 2 blocks from home, but that was the longest 2 blocks ever with my two worked up and freaked out dogs. I hope I didn't just ruin walks for Jenson. ![]()

Re: FVCK!! People/Pet Rant - LONG

That is BEYOND unacceptable on so many levels I don't even know where to start!
Sorry you had to experience that.
We are ok. I have a monster blister on each palm/side of my hand from the leashes, the dogs are on high alert and are being super jumpy/nervous/protective, but no one was hurt. Her dog was super excited and jumpy, and my dogs were snarling and snapping, but didn't connect with hers. We have 6 ft leather leashes which I had only allowed them to have about 3 feet of on the walk, and as she was running up behind me I wrapped them around my hands so that they had less and less room which I think made it possible for me to keep them in control. Chloe has never been defensive around other dogs before - I don't know if it was the new dynamic with her and Jenson, and they both wanted to protect me, or..??

I would've flipped my ever-lovin mind on her too! For the love!! What in the world??? How did she think her actions were even remotely close to being appropriate???
You have every single right to be pissed.

What in the name of Baby Jesus made her think that was a good idea?! Wow! I'm glad you're ok. What a dumbass!
ETA: I just had a thought (if we can see any humor in this situation that is). Do you have blue eyes Anita? Because that would have been a great comeback about vicious dog owners with blue eyes who attack dumbass dog owners. Just a thought. I'm really glad you guys are ok.
OMG Anita. That is absolutely ridiculous. I am so sorry.
I refuse to walk M1&M2 together by myself. There are too many people that don't leash their dogs in our town and I wouldn't be able to control them.
Yesterday I took M1 (the black one) on a run around 5:15pm. We passed about 5 people. All but 1 crossed the street to move away from us.
At one point in September 2009 DH was walking our foster dog J on a walk around the neighborhood. This guy that lived down the street had 3 black labs that he let run after DH and J. J started getting overprotective of DH and the guy did nothing with his dogs. The dogs kept running toward DH and J and DH was *screaming* at the guy to get the dogs away from J. We have no doubt J would have done something serious to the dogs had DH and her not been able to get away.
I hate stupid dog owners.
*M&M* Super Pitbulls
I think I am still more beat up over it than the dogs are - they are peacefully snoring on the couch and have been basically since about 30 minutes after we got home. Lucky pups, hopefully we didn't leave a bad impression of walking on Jenson.. it's not looking like he's too stressed at the moment.

That's awful! I do not understand some people - keeping your dogs under your physical control (or in a fenced yard if they can be trusted to not break free) is not only good for everyone else's safety, but also for the dog's safety! If you don't care about anyone else, at least do it to keep your own pet safe.

Holy crap! That sounds terrifying! I can't believe she let her dog run up on you and JUMP on you like that! No wonder your dogs reacted in a protective way!
And then her question about whether your "pitbulls" are vicious... I can't even wrap my head around her layers of idiocy and deplorable dog-walking etiquette!
You deserve a nice glass of wine
I would have been FURIOUS!!!! This makes me so freaking mad. People are ridiculous. I am glad that you and your pups are ok. Our neighborhood is awful about people leashing and cleaning up after their dogs. I always, always have my dogs leashed, and I have now had at least 5 DIFFERENT dogs run up to my dogs when we are out walking. One lady's dog came charging at us, and she was inside her house so she didn't even notice her dog was running at us. She must have seen and came out, and was like, "oh, don't worry, she's harmless." I wanted to say, "ok biotch, but how do you know that my dogs won't tear your dog to shreads when they see it running up on them?!?!?" People are dummies and it makes me crazy.
I will also add, that people being irresponsible with their dogs has increased Popeye's anxiety about other dogs. A dog ran up on me once, out of nowhere, and Pop jumped in front of me and growled at the dog to keep it away. The owner just let it go. The dog was the most anxious, jumpy dog I have ever seen. It was obvious why it would have alarmed Popeye. I have been working with Popeye for a long time now about not geting really stressed when other dogs approach me. It is hard.
I am so sorry that this happened, and I am glad you told her off.

WTF is wrong with people? First of all, why would she do something like that at all? But then, why would she let her dog loose and run up to you if she thought you had vicious pit bulls? What an idiot.
Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
I carry a small spray can of pet deterant just for this instance. It's citronella (or something like that- it's safe for dogs) but will get dogs to back off. I've encountered too many unleashed dogs on walks with my dogs and it frustrates me to no end! I feel like I'm constantly on guard now watching everywhere to make sure a dog isn't going to come out of the blue. I just don't get some people.

My blood is boiling just reading this. I would have screamed at the lady too.
Good job controlling the situation as best you could. I know your dogs are boxers and not pit bulls, but it doesn't matter what breed they are, it was still a bad situation for that lady to send her dog into. She should know not to let go of her dog's leash and let it excitedly approach a strange person and strange dogs, regardless of what breed the dogs are.
People are so stupid.
Mr. Sammy Dog
I think it's awesome that you had the nerve to yell at her about it. I would have walked away steaming and thought of all my retorts afterward. I hate that!
We live outside city limits so dogs do not have to be leashed. DH takes our dog for walks a few times a day and she stays right by him (if we're in town, she's on a leash; if I have her anywhere, she's on a leash, but he likes to let her run and it's legal). Last fall she was walking next to him and another dog ran out of its yard and attacked ours for no reason. It was kind of dark out so DH didn't realize till he got home that our dog had a huge gash on her back. He went back to make sure the dog didn't have rabies, etc... and the owner was SO rude. Didn't act concerned or offer to pay anything, even though our dog did nothing to his dog and never even barked - she was minding her own business and wasn't in their yard or anything. I saw the owner's wife a week later and he clearly never told her the whole truth about the situation! She offered to pay our vet bill right away, which I knew she would since I have known her for many years. I am pretty sure they are still letting their violent dog roam their yard without being tied down though, and that makes me mad. It also chases kids when they are drive by on their 4-wheeler. I hope something changes before someone gets hurt - we plan on living here for a long time and I'm sure they do, too.
Guess that got long... just wanted to let you know you aren't alone in the angry-at-stupid-owners world.
